Koh Chang: The story of a Russian tourist, kind-hearted Thai police and van driver

Featured Replies

I've been living in Thailand for 10 years now. Been reading TV Forum for many years. I have found the information, thoughts and conversations very helpful and interesting. Many of the posters seem to be decent civil minded intelligent people. However there is one aspect that I find very sad, disappointing and dumbfounding ... that is how many of the posters can find something cruel, spiteful, degrading, and down right disgusting to say about anything and everything. How some can tear down, belittle, criticize, and basically bad mouth anything or anybody they come in contact with. How bitterness and malice comes so easy. My first thoughts when I read this article was "this is great, a feel good real life experience that shows the compassion and goodness of one human to another. A little ray of sunshine in the every increasing dark world of today's self centered "screw you I've got my own problems" society. How can anyone tarnish this show of human kindness I thought, I felt good about the story and the outcome ... and then I started reading the posts from all the self righteous, bitter, kick'em in the teeth till they can't get up regulars(?) ... I usually don't post as I would just get needlessly angry from some of the spiteful replies my optimistic outlook would create ... I couldn't resist this time ... in closing I would like to remind everyone that whether we want or will admit it or not all of us in our youth did many things that would be considered glaringly stupid if not dangerous but at the time seemed perfectly normal to our inexperienced non-functioning correctly simple mind ... we did these things not out of stupidity but out of lack of educational life experiences ... IMHO all involved in this potentially harmful situation turned wonderful probably learned a lesson in life... ... yes my glass is half full and will remain so as long as I am breathing and drinking from life's wonders and goodness ... life is a dream, live it ... or simply create your own nightmare from your ID ... Your decision is what will pleasure you the most ... will also speak volumes about you and your life ... happiness or bitterness ... glass half full or half empty ... your choice ... so choose well as we all live with our choices ... is this young girl a naive inexperienced learning child or a stupid ignorant oaf ... are the folks that helped her warm sympathetic compassionate individuals or a group of self centered phony egotists trying to make themselves look good ... beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... so how's your eyes, how's your vision, how's your outlook on life ... now I will sit back and watch the bitter angry responses to my post by those trying to justify their needless condemnation of youthful inexperience in all it's naive glory

It's good to see good stories about thoughtful Thais. A van driver saved me from getting run over once. I was standing looking up at the hills at the rest stop on the way to PAI. The driver came over to me and we were discussing how beautiful it was here and all

Of a sudden he leaped at me and grabbed me by my shirt and practically slammed me into his van face first. I nearly turned around swinging, but when I turned around another van was backing out like a bat out of hell and would have basically run me over. Very nice guy. I left a very fat tip by the way. All the cash I had on me at the time.

How come so many Russians run out of money on their holiday in Thailand? Travel budget: 100 bath a day perhaps clap2.gif

Probably it made the news because there was the Police involved, but most of the Thais, and most of the people in general, are good-hearted . i heard a few times of normal Thais helping foreigners in distress out of their pocket.

The young lady was probably having too many parties, and lost the plot a bit.

I am stunned at the idiocy of some comments here. Some people have never been young in their life.

Yes very strange of a policeman to help a young, single and attractive lady, isn't it?

Like someone else said, they would NOT have helped a pensioner with a fat belly whistling.gif

Who would?

I wonder if she was actually planning to hitchhike, and something got lost in translation somewhere?
