NONG KHAI: -- The country's first glass bottomed skywalk hanging out over the top of the cliff by the Mekong River was officially opened yesterday becoming the new tourist attraction of Nong Khai province.

The opening ceremony of the 17 million baht glass bottomed skywalk, 500 metres above mean sea level, at Wat Pa Tak Sua temple in Sangkhom district was presided over by Nong Khai governor Suchart Noppawan.

The opening of the skywalk is part of the project of the province to develop the cliff temple as the “dream destination” of tourists that will link tourist destinations of three provinces, Nong Khai, Loei and Bung Kan, together.

But visiting the glass skywalk, tourists have to abide by the safety rules strictly as the skywalk could accommodate only 20 persons at once.

Opening time of the glass skywalk is from 09.30-16.30 hrs daily.

Drunk visitors and those with epilepsy sickness are not allowed to the glass skywalk, and women are advised not to wear skirts.

In case of heavy rains and storms, the skywalk will be closed to service.

The skywalk overlooks the Mekhong river and the Laotian territory.

Wat Pa Tak Sua is a forest temple located 18 kilometres from Sangkhom district town with a beautiful view of the Mekong River.

Perhaps if the thing doesn't work out financially* they could have a 'pervert period' when the hordes are let in down below and the encouragement not to wear dresses is reversedgiggle.gif Now where did I put my (bottle bottom) specs down?

*strikes me that nobody did the maths if it only permits 20 punters on at any one time - do they know how long the average Thai takes to complete all those selfies and facebook postings?

and women are advised not to wear skirts.

Has General Prayuth been involved in this?

Shame, as I was planning on camping out below with some backpackers, just to 'outrage' some of the more morally superior members....

Yer a ghoul after my own heart!

For safety reasons only 20 allowed at one time?

I count at least 40 in the opening ceremony picture!

The overhang/glass bit is behind them - it isn't very big!

Loads of cars and people there today but the glass walkway itself was not that busy - probably because there was no shade on it plus the danger of being bashed round the head by a selfie stick.

Though the view is impressive the glass floor itself isn't since the ground slopes away rather than a vertical drop.

Same same today.

Hundreds and hundreds of cars trying to park without any form of traffic flow control. Vans passing (careening around) other vehicles on hills and sharp curves at high speed.

Ubiquitous souvenir hawkers on loudspeakers.

Forests of selfie sticks.

Next time, think I'll pass.
