CityNews – Chiang Mai has been ranked number one for most road accidents during the 7 Dangerous Days of Songkran 2016.

Every year, the Songkran period sees a sharp rise in road accidents, often caused by alcohol, tiredness and dangerous roads during the week that Songkran is held, this year April 11 to April 17.

This year, when the final figures came in, Chiang Mai topped the ranks with a total of 168 road accidents during the seven days, mostly involving motorcycles.

When a friend first moved up from Bangkok he said that the way motorcyclists ride here they wouldn't last five minutes in Bangkok. Over any holiday period CM is inundated with visiting Bangkok drivers. "168 road accidents during the seven days, mostly involving motorcycles"

Simple solution is to sack the CM police chief, so the incoming new BIB knows what will happen this time next year if he neglects his duties.

now then, now then, keep your shirt on...

Thais always want to be

number 1. Well I guess Chiangmai wins this one.

But they only got 2nd in the fatalities list.

I'm sure they'll try and recapture the number one slot next year.

With the amount of out-of-towners in Chiang Mai during this period, I'm surprised the figure wasn't higher. Traffic congestion all the time, everywhere. This number 1 ranking deserves an asterisk. Chiang Mai can't take full credit!

The headline makes it seem like it's a good thing...

Champions!
