No apologies for starting this new thread but it is I hope going to remain on the single topic.

Last night again in the bar I was told by two guys that they want to get one because they have been told it will mean no more 90 days reports will be needed.

When I said that only applied to PR holders they both said that it doesn't matter this card is the same.

I have now given up and wait for the first time they end up late or in doodoo for overstay.

First of all they need a yellow Tabien Baan to get the card. Secondly, you are right - they still need to do 90 day reports.

I wish they were correct.

So do I.

I wonder what will happen if they do miss a couple of 90 day reports and then front up at Swampy going on a holiday to somewhere even to a neighbouring country that doesn't require a visa etc.

Any ideas?

No, but I know what happens if they miss a 90 day report and then report late.

It's a 2000 baht fine. Been there, done that. I was properly annoyed at myself.

I got one of the seemingly new ID cards last month. I am NOT a PR,just on Retirement extensions. My Thai ID # starts with a 6, PRs start with an 8.

This is a MOI card, has nothing to do with Immigration, so 90-day report still needed.

Mac

where can I get one for PR holders

I reckon if they miss 2 or 3 it might be a bit more than a 2000 baht fine.

I never heard of ID cards for expats before.

Will if be accepected as a id card when the police ask for passport? Passport copy not needed anymore?

Anybody?

I have the yellow housebook already, so please tell me the advantage of getting one? It any, where can I get this id card, thanks.

There is a long thread running on it somewhere. Do a search and you'll find it.

Not trying to be obtuse really but it seems the only benefit is maybe you can go to a Thai park and avoid the inflated ex-pat charge.

Really, find the other thread.

It's 2k fine regardless of how many you miss.

  • If a foreigner staying in the kingdom over 90 days without notifying the Immigration Bureau or notifying the Immigration Bureau later than the set period, a fine of 2,000.- Baht will be collected. If a foreigner who did not make the notification of staying over 90 days is arrested, he will be fined 4,000.- Baht.

No it's not. The maximum fine is 5,000 baht plus 200 baht for each day which passes until the law is complied with, Section 76 of the Immigration Act. 2,000 baht is the standard fine for a late report. I wouldn't fancy the chances of someone missing two or more only being fined 2,000 baht.

My quote is directly from the main immigration web site though I do realize they have not updated the 4000 baht part to 5000 baht. BTW, I was late reporting for 10 years - guess what, 2k fine. smile.png

They do not need to update the immigration website as the 4,000 fine for being arrested is not connected with the 5,000 maximum fine allowed by law.

where can I get one for PR holders

For PR holders now issued at many amphur offices. I got mine in April at the main Chiang Mai muang amphur office.

(Previously local amphur office had to call Bangkok and get them to temporarily open a window in the MOI site to record the start up of issuing the pink plastic card, then Bangkok actually printed the card and sent it out - typically 3 months wait. That's all finished.

Now you walk in the your local amphur office and they print the card on the spot. Just take in all your PR documentation, red police book, and tabien baan book and passport. 65Baht)

I would agree with the fine being between 2,000 - 5,000 baht (from experience) and usually 2,000 baht for being late with the 90 day report, but have never heard of, or experienced, an additional 200 baht for each day that you are late for a 90 day report.

Could you clarify that? Or am i reading your post wrong?
