Hey

Currently live in Canada and 27 years old and have a passion for golf. I have a plan to move to Thailand for a little while, rent a condo get a golf membership and try and start a golf business while I am there. I have some ideas already. Also to play golf every day improve the game play in tournaments etc..

Just wondering how viable it can be down there to say either teach golf/start up something in the golf tourism area for people coming to Thailand for a golf vacation.

I have been golfing all my life currently a 6 handicap, looking to drop down under a 4 by the end of the short golf season we have here in Canada. ( I have been to Thailand about 3 times as well)

Any info on the best area in Thailand to golf/cheaper areas as well. (still want a nice course to become a annual member at)

Cheers!

6 Handicap and you want to teach?

That's like wanting to be a professor with a high school diploma.

It is not that easy here and you are not good enough dude, sorry.

you dont need to be a scratch golfer to teach by the way. I do know the hurdles for a work visa. Yes i am a 6 now but I am confident i will be around a 3 or 2 end of this season. Golf is tough in Canada only get a few months per year, so it is tough to stay on top of your game in the winter.

Just was putting it out there, even if i dont work I was thinking of going for the golf experience staying for the winter and golfing everyday, see what comes out of it

Winter in Canada is the 'high season' here and golf courses are loaded with players. In Chiang Mai our group must tee off at 7am to avoid the rush of Korean and Japanese folks. Expect to pay, even with some kind of membership, during the high season, at least 2000 baht, all in, per 18 holes. And that would be the very least, with some up to 4500 baht.

At one nearby course if you want to play alone and hit two balls, for the practice, over the 18 holes, you must take 2 caddies.

Please keep in mind, even with a membership you still need to pay for caddie fee, caddie tip and carts that are mandatory at a lot of courses. I have often thought about a annual membership, but really isn't worth it for me, only be here every other month. Good luck with your business ventures.
