Copies of All Pages of Passport Required by Thai DMV to Transfer Title of Car in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

I am not sure if others have had this experience or not. I just purchased my 3rd vehicle in Thailand last week--a used SUV in Chiang Mai. There seems to be a new requirement by the Thai DMV (at least, in Chiang Mai). For me to get the title transferred to my name (the previous owner is Thai), the used car dealer had to make and submit a copy of every page of my passport! The sales guy at the car dealership (Expat Auto--has a very honest reputation in the city among expats) told me they have been required to do this for, I believe he said, the last 5 months or so.

I could be wrong and I am only guessing; but, I think this could simply be another means for Thai authorities to keep a closer tab on farangs living full-time in the country. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience recently.

What do you consider new?

That ALL pages have to be copied?

Copies of the (relevant pages of the) passport doesn't sound unusual to me.

You won't like to hear what ridiculous paperwork it took me in 2011 to buy a car in my name.
