Business Visa driving query

Featured Replies

I am currently on a multiple entry 90 day business visa. I would like to drive in Thailand. I have an Australian Licence. Not International Permit. Can I drive in Thailand at all? Thankyou for your help.

Yes...but go beyond 90 days in country and you should be looking at getting yourself a thai license, easy and quick to get, and the ones that dont and try and justify using anothet license long term are just being lazy...you can have a Thai DL in your case in around 30 minutes to 1 hour

Strange things happen in Thailand with OZ DL's but If your OZ DL has your photo and has categories of vehicles you can drive, it maybe OK.

An OZ mate of mine couldn't get a Thai DL because he didn't have a OZ IDP.

In that case all he had to was the driving tests.

Which my OZ friend had to do in the end and did the tests at our local DLT after trying out a few different DLT's in Thailand where he was told he could get Thai DL with just his OZ DL's, I did try to tell him. laugh.pnglaugh.png

I'm on the same visa and an Aus license. You need an IDP, you can get these from NRMA or the VIC equivalent for about a thousand baht. There's no testing or other requirements so why not just get one?
