So this is one of those, only in Thailand questions.

So I've had Bupa Platinum plan for the past 4 years, never made a claim, and regularly received the 10% no claim rebate in the mail roughly 6 months after renewal.

So this year, stupidly I decide to ask the question of the 'manager' in my local office why they didn't just apply this no claim rebate as a discount at renewal.

Of course I was greeted with a 'deer in the headlights' response.

But is there any rational reason why they do this?

Believe you may have answered your own question in that post ? My Bupa was used twice last year unfortunately and when I went to insure for this year expected the usual mocking smiles and raised fee, to my shock it was the same as the first year, go figure..

So far Bupa has been first class but good luck with the logical thought process lol

You receive your premium notice before the year is up. So it can not applied to the following year's premium.

You should   receive your renewal policy before your current policy expires so you can renew beforehand and it does not expire

its normal practice if you let a policy expire before renewing it to submit a stat declaration to confirm the vehicle has not been

involved in a accident before the insurance company renews

Its normal in most countries for your no claim bonus to be deducted from your new policy before you renew it, but TIT

Same as leaving vehicles involved in a accident on the road until the police and/or insurance arrive to inspect the accident scene when they could have been removed safely and not caused a traffic jam

In Australia you would be charged with obstructing traffic for not moving vehicles out of the traffic flow if if was safe to do so

They explained to me that they cannot issue the no claims straight away as some hospitals do not process fees straight away and make claims ...

So they wait a few months before granting the no claims

I do not think its the hospital that are slow to process things its the insurance companies

We recently went into our local insurance company office to renew our truck insurance,i ask them how long before we received the policy and they told us 3 days as it had to be processes in Bangkok, it took over 3 weeks for them to issue the renewed policy and several Phone calls to find out when we would receive it, I am used to good honest service in my home country

You get a cover note number  on the phone and the policy generally within 48 hours by post

After you haved lived here for awhile you get used to their cannot care less attitude once they have your money with some businesses

I've paid for BUPA Platinum Health in patient Insurance for several years in Thailand. I just paid for my annual premium. I realize I will received a check for 10% of the premium (not 10% of the tax) in about six months. When I have questions I telephone or e-mail the dual citizen, bi-lingual Thai insurance broker in Phuket. Eric Dohlon was born in Thailand, is a Thai citizen and has provided medical insurance, home coverage, auto, truck and motorbike cover for my family since 2005.  I pay my insurance coverage premiums on line and have a written receipt prior to the policy and receipt arriving via registered mail.

This sorta makes sense, although I also agree with madmax2, that the people that delay billing/payment generally aren't hospitals, but the insurance companies themselves.

So I'm consigning this to my box of 'only in Thailand, breathe deep, and go with the flow' topics!
