BANGKOK:-- Soi 3 in the Nana area of Sukhumvit Road was sealed off late last night as 200 police swooped on the area in a crime suppression drive.

News reports stressed that all those stopped and arrested were dark skinned.

Only Soi 3 was targeted - those on a night out in Soi 4 on the other side of the main road were not mentioned as part of the check of passports or subjected to urine tests.

The raiding party was headed by the top brass of Metropolitan police chief Lt- General Sanit Mahathavorn and head of the tourist cops Surachet Hakpan.

Manager reported that out of 30 tourists (dark skinned) checked there were 6 who had no passport and showed positive for drug use with a purple urine test.

Sanit said that the swoop and blockade of the area was part of the Met's ongoing efforts to reduce crime. And he especially wanted to root out those individuals using tourist areas as cover for illegal activities such as drugs related crime.

Checking passports was a good way to do this he reminded the raiding party as this can reveal criminal histories and people wanted on warrants.

He also said that the swoop was in readiness for the ACD summit starting this weekend.

The ministerial level 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue Summit, a ministerial level conference, is being held in the city from today until Monday.

Nonsense.

The vast majority of crime in Thailand is committed by Thais.

Are you suggesting every Thai is arrested in this stupid manner?

I read this story and wondered how long the first racial profiling comment would take

It is not racial profiling, the blacks down lower Suk are drug dealing scum, no exceptions, they have been at it down there for years, everyone knows it and if you don't you don't live in the real world

Arresting people on the basis of their colour is racial profiling.

Arrest drug dealers, no one's complaining about that, but do it on the basis of evidence not colour.

You obviously have no idea, they are not stupid enough to carry the drugs on them, they are hidden up drainpipes etc

How would you know?

Have you actually seen all of them dealing drugs or are you just venting some sort of problem you have with black people?

Nothing racialist about calling a black "Chocolate Man", so "Dark Skinned" - it's only when the so called 'N' word is used all the limp wrist liberals get into a huff

"Let me tell you something," Bill Cosby, one of America's most admired men, told the group. "Your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other [the N-word] as they're walking up and down the street. They think they're hip. They can't read. They can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere."

Only those who had commited offences were arrested

Who cares about racial profiling? The fact is the blacks down lower Suk are drug dealers, it is not racial profiling to target them, it is simple police work

I can imagine the reaction in some western countries if this was to happen there, the do gooders, community representatives etc would be up in arms

There were protests about the raids in Paris and Brussels immediately after terrorist incidents despite being part of urgent on going investigations.

Ah, so this 'swoop' was only carried out so the boss could go to the conference and say 'they' had actually done something for a change.

No, it is racist bigotry to use racial profiling to arrest someone.

The ones who had not committed offences were not arrested

Is this easy enough for you to understand?

So you've been offered drugs by every single black person you've seen in Lower Sukhumvit?

Do you look like a junkie?

Good call, I suppose when a black guy is seen running from the scene of a crime, the police should go out and shake down whites & orientals.

Negroes are 13% of the US population, they commit 51% of the homicides.

Then again, I think you're trolling anyway.
