CHIANG RAI: -- A minivan load of passengers in Chiang Rai had a lucky escape from death when their vehicle was driven headlong into a big signpost.

The accident happened on Pahonyothin Road heading into Chiang Rai in the Sai Khao sub-district.

Two women were seriously injured suffering broken legs. They had to be cut out of the vehicle using special equipment. Seven others were taken to two local hospitals with less serious injuries, reports Naewna.

Police said that the van belonged to the Nan Khan Company and plied the Phrae to Chiang Rai route. The signpost that it hit head on was one used to indicate a U-Turn.

Passengers commented that the minivan had been swerving over the road prior to the accident.

The driver was one of those hospitalized and police want to talk to him to get to the bottom of what happened.

The cops said it was lucky that no one died in the accident.

What speed was the signpost doing at the time of the incident? Arrest the person who installed it there, if it was 20m in either direction the accident would not have occurred.

Amazing that nobody died, these incidents too often end up with the vehicle burning.

That's an easy one. Another sociopathic mini-van driver taking on the world. How else would he have got the job?

Agree, it seems that the main items needed to get a van drivers license comes down to just two words; crazy and angry.

(That's assuming the driver does have a license / any license!)

It's always best that these van drivers sustain disabling injuries when they crash their passenger vans, because it prevents them from running away.

.......and with luck never able to drive a minibus again. saying that we don't know what caused the accident , wet road  , I don't think so , brake failure descending a hill maybe , nup , no hills on that road. What about driving towards on coming traffic , that is popular with minibus drivers .  No the driver was on the correct side of the road , my 25 satang guess ....puncture.

They should have yelled stop!! and made a citizens arrest for sleeping at the wheel. Its funny how people feel that their life is in danger and yet do nothing.

Who put the sign post in the ground ,wasn't the same people who put electricity posts in because they fall over with a bit of wind ,this one can stand the impact of a lunatic mini van driver

"..get to the bottom of what happened."

Easy. If the sign was for a U-Turn then the van driver was swinging wide in order to carry out the manoeuver and ended up hitting the damned sign. Jeez, no need for an inquiry. :whistling:
