Local English Newspaper Annoyance

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed that clicking on an article in the Phuket newspaper with the initials PG, causes another window to pop up.  When I close the news site this other window is there, which I also have to close.  This is the only site where  this happens to me and so I have stopped looking at it as it annoys me.  I have Ad Blocker installed.

^^^Same with me. I used to read that site a lot, but not much anymore unless I need to quote something. See you later PG

Note that your browser normally should block popups. PG is employing dirty tricks to fool the browser and allow the popup. You could essentially see this as hacking your browser in order to shovel ads onto your computer and generate revenue. I wonder if such tactics would fall under the computer crime act...

Should I be glad it is just not me then?

It is a "pop-under" ad.

Add this line to the file "hosts" in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc"

0.0.0.0 partner.phuket.net

It won't stop the pop-under window appearing, but at least it'll be blank.

I'm ready for it with the cursor poised where the new tab will appear.

It's gone before it can load.

They're losing readers and classified advertising hand over fist, and yet have found a new way to chase people from their site.

Hope this one advertiser is paying them big bucks.

Yes, really stupid to not only lose a reader but create negative feelings as well!  I don't suddenly decide to book a hotel room because of a pop up ad, just as I don't suddenly decide to take a taxi because people yell at me to take one.
