Centre Point Silom Hotel. My favourite in BKK by a mile. Mid price range. Check out Agoda for best deals for the dates you are in town.

Superb hotel. Staff faultless. Good English spoken.

Rooms big & spotless. Terrific river views.

Pool, gymnasium, huge comfortable restaurant, attentive staff.

Terrific buffet breakfast Western & Thai

2 minute walk from Saphan Taksin BTS station.

2 minute walk to main jetty on Chao Phraya River.

Hotel sits on top of big Robinsons Dept Store.

Tops Supermarket,  McDonalds, KFC, Swensons, Black Canyon, MK all onsite.

Big, busy Thai market every night adjacent to hotel.

Many good local restaurants within 5 minute walk.

Taxi rank at hotel.

emporium suites.  sukhumvit area.  has all the stuff/convenience noted in post #1.  centre point silom is a fine property also, just giving another option.  if friends want to be near the river (many do), centre point is better option.

there is a park next door to emporium suites and it is attached to the BTS station phrom phong.

And price range does not matter?

1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, 10000 Baht per night or more?

Is it their first visit to Thailand/Bangkok?

In addition he should give an idea of what kind of restaurants.

Also which area of Bangkok he would like the station to be...the OP was incredibly vague.

Can anyone suggest a nice hotel at around 1000-2000 THB in the Sukhumvit area, then? Preferably close to a BTS/MRT station.

If there's a gym there, awesome. Same goes for a swimming pool.

Sorry if I sort of hijacked this guy's thread, but I though I'd avoid making a brand new one...

you might consider the ambassador hotel on sukhumvit soi 11.  also the grand president, same soi.  on sukhumvit soi 20, thee hotel is relatively new.  check agoda.com for other choices.

I recommend you for lohas Residence.I am also experienced with this residence. So,visit

https://www.lohasresidences.com/  At Lohas Residences, aspire to become your home away from home where you can experience exemplary standards of service and hospitality while you plunge in Bangkok’s splendor.

Simply replace the word "splendor" with "cesspit" and the sentence is perfect.

Before you book with Agoda, read the small print. 17% extra taxes to pay after advertised price.

Ambassador is a toilet IMO, very dated.

Plus it's a stampede at breakfast with all the Indian and Chinese guests - no thanks...

RUAM CHITT above the Thermal....great roof top pool....for about 1000...if you must stay on Sukhumvit.  NANTRA 39 on Sukhumvit 39.....modern small rooms but cheap like 600 and very decent e breakfast buffet....they have a website..but Agora is within a few percent possibly less.  I am on a budget, alone, and know BKK...I like the single rooms at Mybed lad phrao...so close to MRT..ALSO the King Royal II just across the river from Sathorn Pier and close toBTS....BIG ROOMS, WASHING MACHINE VIEWS....NICE AREA BUT NOT TOURISTY....ABOUT 600.  Like a lot of stuff..go middle of the road...no need to pay 2000..but also silly to sleep on bunkbeds or think you n be OK for 200.  The B2 chain is consistent and similar to Mantra..also have their own site to book direct.

Can you recommend anywhere in KK to stay?

My first time in KK, I got off the bus, walked around and checked into the Roma Hotel...fan room with hot shower for 230 per night...fine during the rainny season.  I ended up staying about 10 days, it was just real pleasant, which is all I wanted.  Excellent location.  Also, the Tamarind Hotel is newer with air-con and has a cheap laundry service, where I had my clothes washed while a guest at Roma.  More like 350 per night..somewhat nicer for sure.  Bigger budgets, Pullman Hotel...about 2500 per night....and closer to the beer bar strip, but it is only a 10-15 walk from the ROma to Pullman.  Pullman is more train station area, Roma/Tamarind are near the bus station.  Vans run from Central (closer to Pullman) to KKU, which is a very nice campus, I walked around and got a 60 Baht haircut by some beauty queen.  Dranks some Leos that were only two days old...that was kind of nice...they have a brewery there....except now the ones that are two months old and been in the heat test kind of gross.  The Chinese have driven up a lot of prices in KK, but if your sick of all the trashpackers in CM; it is worth a look, and there might even be a few better late/late night options.  CM is just plain more comfortable to westerners....even if you really like authentic Thai style.  UTH and Korat are similar...not cultural centers, but very livable and easy to get around.

that was King aRoyal Garden, about two BTS stops closer to Saladaeng at the Surask BTS..about 25 per night..has pool and gym....here is the  previously mentioned King Royal II for about 18-19 us per night...gym but no pool...

Let us just say you really never know about the noise in Bangkok....it can be anywhere, and everywhere...construction....but one side of a hotel can make a huge difference.  I used to live next to a 3am bar....I went down one morning at about 2:30...and they kind of had a guilty look like I was going to read them the riot act///just there for a beer or three.  Apparently they were despised by the other side of the building.
