HUA HIN: -- A Western man and his Thai wife had a lucky escape on Thursday when their car caught fire in central Hua Hin.

The man and woman were driving from Market Village shopping centre travelling in the direction of Soi 94 when the engine of their Nissan car stopped suddenly.

As the man tried to restart the car, the engine caught fire forcing the couple to flee in panic as flames started to engulf the bonnet of the vehicle.

Images of the aftermath of the fire  were shared on the Facebook page of Kulsawek Sawekwannakorn, a Daily News journalist who is based in Hua Hin.

Kulsawek said that locals came to the assistance of the couple and helped to extinguish the fire before the emergency services attended.

The incident caused widespread disruption to Hua Hin on Thursday.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Both occupants of the vehicle escaped unhurt.

I live in Hua Hin. This is about the most excitement we have around these parts.

Glad no one was hurt.

From the pictures, the incident took place at the Soi 94 - Petchakasem Road intersection; the car is pointing north, so the vehicle was travelling towards Hua Hin Market Village.

Ooh! Picky:smile:

Yes, it's appears to be outside that Pasaya place (whatever that is)

The incident caused wide spread disruption in Hua Hin??? This looks like it happened 2 blocks from my wifes hair salon on soi 94. We did not even now it happened. The disruption did not spread too far.

Exactly same thing happen to my wife's Chevrolet Colorado.  It was a complete burnt out wreck within 5 minutes.  My brother-in-law, who was driving it, and his friend didn't even have time to get their wallets and other personal things out of the car but luckily no one was hurt.  They noticed some smoke coming from the bonnet and stopped to have a look and as they opened it up, it just burst into flames.

I have carried a fire extinguisher in my car since day 1.  Actually used one back in college to put out another car's small engine fire.  And you better have one in your house or apartment also.  Seems silly until you need one.
