Visa exemption - 30 days or 15 days?

Featured Replies

I've been to Thailand twice before.  Both times I had to fill out a little card on the flight, which I handed to the official at immigration along with my passport.  I was not charged any money for this.

This time, I'm visiting Cambodia first, then crossing the land border at Poi Pet, and I've been told to check the visa requirements as they are different.  I'm a UK passport holder, so I come under the Tourist Visa Exemption, which says I can stay for up to 30 days, but it appears that when entering the country via the land border, this is only 15 days??  I'm staying for 21 days, so do I need to get a visa before I travel?  Will I be able to stay for 21 days?  And will it cost money?

Visa-exempt land-border crossings into Thailand used to be 15-days for citizens of many countries.

But that was changed in the past year or so to now be a standard 30-days for visa-exempt, land border entries for people from most countries, including the UK.

The exceptions being a few countries that have specific, bilateral agreements with Thailand.

Be aware that Poi Pet is the worst crossing into Thailand, as far as IOs making trouble for people entering.  If you have not spent time here recently, or frequently, you should be OK.  Otherwise, you may want to switch to the use of any other entry-point from Cambodia, which are all OK.

Note that land-entries into Thailand are now limited to 2 per calendar-year for most foreigners, including the UK.

you will get 30 days except visa since you are GB passport holder and you can extend this for 30 days for a fee of 1900 bhat if its required by yourself.

No, Yes, No.

As others wrote: coming from Cambodia you get a 30 day stamp.

Thanks for the advice.  It sounds like I should be ok.

Just want to apologise, as I've just realised I've accidentally posted this question twice.  I was getting notifications and when I came back to check, it looked like comments were deleted, but it was just because it was on the other thread.  I'm such an idiot, lol.
