An army officer tests the breath of a taxi driver on Dec. 29 at a press event promoting road safety during the New Year holidays.

BANGKOK — Police stations across Bangkok were instructed Wednesday to be more mindful of the health of intoxicated suspects after a university student died in police custody last week.

Police said Sitthisawat Iamlapha, 21, died of heart failure early Saturday morning in a cell at the Bang Na Police Station, where police locked him up on suspicion of driving under the influence. Bangkok police commander Sanit Mahatavorn has ordered a disciplinary investigation into the matter.

That position is tantamount to purchasing a franchise. Except the franchise is free. You only have to pay for your own gun, uniform, and belt. You can then do with it as you may. Depends on the creativity, and level of devious behavior of the individual franchisee. There is alot of profit to be made. They all know that is going on. They all know the chances of ever getting prosecuted for their crimes is next to zero. One can earn the same money as a cashier at Tesco, as the starting salary of a Thai policeman. The latter has alot more benefits.

50mg. 47 is under the legal limit. You were robbed by the BIB. Have a nice day.

This is how it can go. If your over the limit the fine is bt10,000 and the BIB can lock you up until you appear in court. Give the BIB bt20,000 you go home no charges pending.

Low salary???? Don't they also get a share of the tea money, or does most of that go to their superiors?

I can guarantee you that no cop will ever put a hand in or on my wallet, or even look inside it. He will be invited to take me to the police station on foot only.

In the case of me having my motorbike with me, I will offer to follow him on my bike. That is only if I have not committed an offence, if I have

then he will be given the 300 Bt towards his tea money fund, but there will be no hand on my wallet except mine.

There you go again with the truth. Now every Tom Dick and Somchai will want to be a cop.

I love how these cops suddenly, within seconds, become medical examiners and doctors...Amazing. It was stated in another article that the kid had a "pre-existing heart condition"....by another cop, of course...! Amazing.

Why are people asking what the DD limits are ?

If you get caught then you deserve a good kicking. A bike or a car driven by a drunk idiot who thinks he can handle his beer is a bomb waiting to go off.

Some people like myself do not know what the limit is .
