BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Tuesday acquitted former deputy prime minister Suthep Thuaksuban of defamation charges filed against him by three core leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship.

While serving as deputy prime minister in charge of security affairs, Mr Suthep told a press conference at a hotel in Laksi area on May 22, 2011, implying that the three UDD core leaders namely Weng Tochirakarn, Natthawut Saikua and Jatuporn Promphan were terrorists accountable for widespread torchings in Bangkok and upcountry provinces during the red shirts’ violent protests against the Abhisit government.

In their defamation charges, the trio claimed that Suthep’s defamatory remark caused damages to their reputation and that of Pheu Thai party.

"Reform before elections". Only a handful of posters on this forum ever believed that nonsense and even they have recognised that the "reforms" are merely a smoke-screen covering the real intent of the coup: reinforcing the vested interests of the elite. Suthep and the crazed monk were merely pawns firing the bullets on behalf of their true masters.

Redshirts threatened to burn down Bangkok, they were also firing and killing using military grade weapons.

I am going to assume that the educated here understand what the word terrorist means ? the rest need to go and study up

and the newspapers and TV stations. There are a lot of covert actions to the uprising, Suthep being one of them, via in sighting riots. U may say the other side did too but they are the only ones being targeted now. And the windfall from the reds corruption, whilst the yellows are squeaky clean. A new constitution that allocates power to a minority? Plus still going after the goose that laid the golden egg, since his followers have been halved and or sent to goal.

I am certain it wouldn't meant to include reporters and nurses.

I await the charges of nationwide arson against the three UDD leaders then.

court has already said it was true:

The court ruled that the burnings of buildings in Bangkok and provincial halls in upcountry provinces were factual which was confirmed by the Department of Special Investigation and not regarded as falsehood.

Also in his capacity as deputy prime minister in charge of security affairs, Mr Suthep reported the violent incidents to the public for acknowledgement.

proving it like this is easier as actually convicting them but there are already charges pending.

people who refused to remove themselves from what I would describe as a live fire zone unfortunately made that choice, the men in black (armed terrorists of the UUD) were engaging the security forces and everyone was warned to get out of the area or risk being harmed, some people made very poor choices, it was said that those shot in the grounds of the temple had just fired on the security forces and fled to that location effectively putting anyone in that area in severe danger

Actually Suthep said that the dead protesters "ran into bullets".

I am surprised they did not file a defamation complain against him. Err. ....
