I haven't seen any dates; expect they'll have a large-ish launch maybe in conjunction with a service provider partner.

I think the dates for the U.S. are 21 April and the U.K 28 April, so maybe sometime in May for THA? Have seen a base price on the S8 of 24,900 (or maybe 27,900?). S7's are down to 15,900; S7\edge ~ 17,300, maybe lower with carrier promo?

Are preorders up for Thailand?

Not yet, I whent yesterday in 2 samsung shops (official ones) and they said it shall start this week for preorders (a 1k deposit is enough)

Does the release of the S8 mean I should upgrade from my S4?  The S4 still does everything I need.

SGS4 is a nice phone, still usable as long as you are happy with Android 5.0.1, and 3G and no VoLTE/VoWiFi, etc. I sold mine to a friend a few years ago, and it's still working well for him. Plenty of these on the used market here.

It looks like AIS is the first service provider to publish a promo.

Supposedly pre-orders are available from 17 April.

I'd expect a large-ish launch after Songkhran

I gave up on Samsung after the Note 7 debacle. 30,000 for a mobile phone no way. Recently bought a Huawei Mate 8, fantastic phone much better than the Samsungs, 13,500 baht.

21 april if for pre orders, 28 april is the worldwide launch

Preorders start the 17th, 6950 in freebies, s8 = 27900, s8+ = 30900.  Pre-order and you get delivery before the 28th. Can pre-order on Samsung website on the 17th. This per a visit at an official Samsung store.

I have the Note 4.  It is now a slug and looking forward to its retirement. You can save baht if you are not a techie and get the S7 which are being discounted.  The S8 is a quantum leap in design and display but has the same rear camera as the S7.

Camera wise the SG7 takes ace pics and when the new one comes out I'll be definitely upgrading. 27 900 baht that's really expensive, why not come to HK and go electronics shopping? The new SG8 for around HK4000 is what they will be, extra if you want a bigger memory card and extras like a cover etc.

Yes, that price is beyond silly. Price for electronics in Thailand are way too high.

I wonder why that is? Especially since most thai people are kinda "poor".

Guess some things are reserved for the "hi-so" only.

Import/excise tax....not to be confused with the 7% VAT.

same same only slightly different. with my dual SIM 12 year old Motorolas i can make calls, receive calls, send and receive SMSs and make pictures.

The s8 and s8+, sell for about $750 and $850 in America. Gets tricky now, but using the current exchange rate of 34.5 and applying the 7% vat puts you near 27,900 and 30,900 baht. Now throw-in the 6950baht in freebies for pre-ordering and it becomes a good deal. (case, screen protector, wireless charger, level box Bluetooth speakers). In the box, are a pair of AKG earphones, which retail for $125.

But if we continue to not upgrade each year when the new model comes out we'll miss the obvious joy and excitement of buying that brand new (and expensive) phone which we don't need regardless of the neat advertising terms and acronyms which make the new model sound like the technological break-through of the century although it's really just a minor enhancement from last year's model.  I just never knew it was so imperative to get the latest model so I could continue to call, email, text, browse, and take pictures.   I just never knew how important it is to have the latest and greatest phone in the palm of your hand.

Now I know we are talking the near term release of Samsung's latest model, but what about that new Apple model coming out next year.

My redneck cousin in Alabama has almost the same dual SIM phone but his uses double-sided tape versus a rubber band.   HIs double-side tape model is a year later model than the rubber band model.

Whether it's smartphones, electronics, or cars,  I enjoy, like others,  having the latest technology and safety. IPhones, and Samsungs high end phones have a high resale value so if you factor that in to the equation the costs become more justifiable. The new IPhone 8 will be a game changer for Apple with new displays (made by Samsung!) and technology although I prefer Android myself.

German rednecks are more sophisticated. they don't like tape glue on the backs of their beloved antique gadgets.

For the preorders, do I have to visit a physical Samsung shop on the 17th? Or can I preorder online?

I will be at Koh Pha Ngan all of next week.. No Samsung stores there. lol.

A Samsung shop told me you could do it online.

As near as I can tell you can "register your interest" on-line. Maybe that will lead to the ability to pre-order in the future, who knows.

Bixby looks a bit under-performing, at least at the get-go.

In Singapore, you can do the preorder online, but I'm still not 100% sure about Thailand.

I've searched for answers on the web, but I could not find anything about online preorders.

I went to a Samsung shop here in Bangkok and asked if I have to visit one of their shops to make my preorder. They had no idea.
