CHIANG MAI: -- The Muang Chiang Mai Municipality tried to pacify Songkran revellers on Monday over fears water in the Khu Muang canal surrounding the old city area is unsafe for use during Songkran.

Muang Chiang Mai mayor Thassanai Buranupakorn led officials to inspect the water quality, a few days after Facebook users flagged this as a potential issue.

Khu Muang Chiang Mai is a popular destination for Songkran revellers.

Thassanai said the municipality lowered the water in the canal last month and replaced the water from an irrigation canal and also put chlorine in the water several times to increase the water quality.

Key word--clean ENOUGH....pulled a few bodies outta there before

Take a stroll at night and u may spot a rat or two--or 200....

Ahhh chlorine--great--be prepared to have your eyes burn as well

with a faceful of that toilet water...let the carnage begin--ugh..:saai:

I do recall them draining it--i was expecting bodies and a car down there...

Rats are good.  It's when the rats all die is when you have to get worried. :)

But seriously: good news.

Not helped by The Nation using a picture from when the moat was dredged to replace the water.  Or helped by them calling it a canal instead of a moat.   Oh well it's not the worst of their reporting.

Let's not rush to judgement here.....wait until someone actually has a dip in it and survives.......

Have a dip in it ,  There is an expression that comes to mind . 'A rat up a drain pipe '

The very LAST water I'd EVER want to come in contact with...!

I hope she feels better now , that was a dry path 10 mins ago !.

20 bt bet that says there will be thais swimming in it

The boys have already posted the deep zone signs..

as if any thais would bother reading it anyway....:wai:

So many labs at so many hospitals in CM...so

easy to test for the quality of water in Bactria Dept.

of any lab.    Than publish the results, don't just state

it is clean enough....That is meaningless

I hope she feels better now , that was a dry path 10 mins ago !.

She ? It's a Thai man pooing in the water.

Sorry... not a man..... there are fish in those waters ,  pretty big fish and you know how fish are with worms... no not a man>   however all bets are off if there are blow fish in dem waters

Whenever they drain the moat to do whatever it is they do with a drained moat, I never see any dead fish, or any signs that anything lives in those waters.

Nothing can live in that moat.  Maybe except killer bacterias.
