Please forget about that. I don't have any malware and it's on four machines the same.

Please don't come with the free AVG now.....

Great.................and

No, I do not use either.

But when you get the problem sorted, please let us all know what the solution was.

I'm working on it and found out that i can use all when I use the new mail system and sign in there.

So, i can send photos and files, but would love to do it the ordinary way.

It's a bug that needs to get fixed. MS is aware of it and i hope that they'll find an update to it.

I'll of course let you know once I found the solution.

Short update. So I finally found a few things out. I can attach all files i want when I'm using the Mail integrated mail program from the 1703 update ( no idea if 1605 had it?)

Other E-mail providers like Gmail work well, so it's  not a big deal.

If that's the only problem, then I'm okay with it.

Trans, i feel sorry that you went through the same network issue again.  You might consider to look for other drivers. Just let me know when you're ready and I'll come by.

giddyup is the OP with gmail attachment issues but he left the building quite a while ago. I don't blame him really... this thread has been all over the shop.

Someone who try to think more than the minimum requested to eat and poop can also imagine using Dropbox and dropbox gmail extension, but anyway the original problem doesn't exist, so the problem is solved.

As I said in my other post, I do have my Gmail attachments working again after a Firefox reinstall.

That's quite easy to understand. All older System Restore Points are with the update gone. So if you haven't got a restore point, it's time to switch it on and create one.

Unfortunately, do many posters experience difficulties to do such a System restore and messages show up that it "could be" an AV that's blocking it.

I haven't yet figured out what's preventing a restore, that's really a crappy update if such things aren't covered.

But please, do yourselves a big favor and use Macrium, create a Windows back up, you can even restore it if somethings'w wrong, when you choose drive D ( same drive) for the backup.

But it's always wise to create such a backup on an external drive, once the system runs well. Then you only have to use a memory stick to create a bookable tool to start it with and get it work.

Macrium is free and even my grandmother's grandmother can do that. Easy as getting dressed.

    https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

Important is to download it from the original page and not from a third party one that's trying to convince you to pout other stuff on that might create problems after the set up.

The worst is the CA browser, a freaking Chinese browser hijack tool you can hardly get rid off.

I can't upload images, or files on my Hotmail account when sending an e-mail, ( after the upgrade) had a MS fuzzy taking over my PC for an hour, but he didn't find the problem. It seems to be a server issue....

But if all goes wrong, I've got my 1607 on an external drive and would have it back withing 30 minutes.

Backup, backup and backup, the three most important things.

Could anybody try to send a test e-mail using Hotmail and attach one file ( Office word) and a photo and try if it works, please?

It's on all four machines the same problem, so i don't believe the MS guy's bla bla, server issue.

I could see him doing what i did before and there's nothing he could find. And once you're running a full diagnostic it tells you that all is fine, but it's not.

I'm afraid we're doing certain experiments for MS now. God shave the King.

windows 10 has the ability to clone your OS to an external drive which I do once a month or before any major changes

RigPig:  I use Gmail on all of my machines and have had no problems sending attachments.  If the attachment is very large, Gmail will store it on Google Drive and send a link.   My suggestion is to download CCleaner from Piriform and use it to clean all of the Google caches and cookies.  Also install Malwarebytes.  Malware can really mess up your computer and it needs to be taken off.  If you buy the pro version of Malwarebytes, it will guard your computer from malware being installed in the first place.  I have fixed the computers of many friends and malware has usually been the problem, not the OS.  BTW, I don't think that Microsoft issues security patches for Windows 7 any more so using it can be risky.  For Windows 10, you don't need Antivirus software since the built-in Windows Defender is good and receives frequent updates.

I have 10bit driver auto updater, that works great...Forgot, on returning to 1607 the text setting section is BACK........which proves the 1703 has missed out some stuff...

Anyhooooo, my machine is back to it's perfect state.....:stoner:

Would you suggest I prevent the 1703 update from happening? Can I even do that?

I would let them do it and see if you have any probs, l may have had probs because of my protection stuff, l don't know, but if you do have probs it is easy to go back to 1607, takes very little time..

Once again, I have screwed myself using one of those free cleanup programs. I had several thousand ebooks in my documents folder. I use the Windows 10 built in backup program. I went back to a couple of the previous backups and my Calibre book folder was also empty. I have no idea what happened to my books but they are gone. The folder is empty. Another lesson learned. I let Bitdefender protect my computer and use the Windows built in backup program. No more free programs for me.

That's not true. Windows 7 will be fully supported until January 14, 2020, which obviously includes security patches.

It might be worth noting Windows 7 still has a market share of 49% of all desktop operating systems.

Microsoft is trying its best to scare everyone onto Windows 10.

Here's a good read on the situation:

Try Libre Office it's free and there is a Windoze version, VERY close to the older versions of office, which I prefer to the newer ones.  I would be interested in your opinion...  NOT trying to hyjack the thread but!!

I have been using Libre Office for well over a year now and the main problem is forgetting to change from Libre to MS when uploading files for somebody else to read.

Easy Fix -  Go to >Tools >Options > Load and save > General and change "Document type" to a "Micro$oft file type. You doc's will now save in a cross platform format.

Hotmail and other Microsoft mail clients have all been folded into a client called simply "Outlook.". I have had so many problems with online version and the software version that I have simply given up and use gmail exclusively with Yahoo mail as a backup.  I spent many hours trying to get my folders to agree with the Exchange server that Microsoft switched to when they transformed Hotmail into Outlook but failed. Microsoft couldn't help me. I don't think that the technician who I talked with knew what the new folder structure on the server is. I'm very tenacious with computer problems but had to give up on this one.  Gmail has been constantly reliable so I depend on it. It's a pity because Hotmail worked reliably for many years and received messages faster than Gmail.

Do posters know that Windows backups can be made within Windows without using any additional software products?  Just backup to an external drive and create a flash drive to boot from. You can find it under Settings - Backup.  You can't access the Control Panel to find Backup any more by using Windows- X in the newest version.  It will come up if you type it into the Run box.  Also you can copy and paste the icon onto your desktop.

I am that old we were not allowed to use a calculator at school because the teachers didn't have a clue how to use them and  only the rich kids could afford one....

I'll bet you can use a slide rule though and that's  a dying or even dead art now!!  And no mean feat!

Yeah, I know you can use the native Windows program, but I use Macrium Reflect. It's free and it's fantastic. It has saved me on many occasions. It's also great for cloning drives if you need to swap them.

You'd have to wonder why 3rd party software always works better than the native Windows apps. I tried Windows Defender for awhile but found it annoying and buggy, so I went back to my old favourite, Avast.

LOL> when I started at school we used slide rules. Calculators were more common when I got to university. I remember my first scientific calculator took about 15 seconds to calculate the factorial of 69 - that was the highest it would go.

I love my MS Office 2016 which seems to be the Mercedes under such programs. I need good programs to be able to create worksheets, insert anything from photos online, from my One Drive and quite a lot of new and amazing applications I wouldn't want to miss.

Nitro 10 Pro works well with this program and it's even integrated and let's you change documents into various different formats.

I've had MS Office for a long time, but I'm happy that they also developed this program in a way that it saves you a lot of time and nerves.

Sorry, it was about not being able to attach files, which is also sorted out after getting in touch with Norman (G)Bate's staff.

+ 1 Macrium fan. It's free, fast, reliable and you get your system back in minutes, not hours. The MS tool is in no way to compare to it.

The W 10 1703 update also comes with a much better AV system, but it doesn't really do all needed tasks. I've tried them all and AVAST drove me crazy with its " A virus has been detected voice."

I want an AV system to do its job without trying to tell me some rubbish. I'm using W Defender for periodic scans in addition with Kaspersky Internet security 2017.

They invented many new and very good tools, a VPN comes with the program as well.

My apologies for the hijacking of the OP's original post that really went through the forest.

After the upgrades of four machines, three PC's and a notebook, it took a few days to find out that i couldn't attach any files, or photos when sending an e-mail using Hotmail.

I've really tried all, but couldn't find the problem. I decided to get in touch with MS, because it's obvious that 4 computers can't have the same problem right after such an update.

The one techie promised me to not leave until all is done. But after an hour he had to pass and told me a very fishy story about servers. It must be a server problem, which I denied.

i gave him remote access and could watch him doing exactly what I had already done 25,000 times.

He finally gave up and refereed me to Outlook specialists. But also this techie guy had to give up after 30 minutes, because there's no way to fix the problem.

The 1703 comes with a new mail assistant program and while the techies tried their best, I checked on this program and was surprised that I could sent all types of files I wanted to, when using the

new mail program.

You don't have to be a computer technician to understand that it's a homemade problem, made by MS.

Again ,they've sent huge updates out without doing their homework first.

I was the one who then pointed out that MS still has got a bug(s) in their new version and I was really surprised when I found out this afternoon that all computers are working well now.

They must have found the bug and sent all users a little update that fixed the issue.

All systems work great and I'm still trying to find out all the new programs. As already mentioned, there's a tool where you can leave MS ( and of course other on you spying guys) in the darkness.

OO is a program that doesn't have to be installed, nor does it install any other third party bs nobody wants to have.

If you believe that MS shouldn't know so much about your activities, please use this tool.

https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 It seems to be a nice one.
