Recently returned from Sydney Australia.

I had what I refer to as a small mole (BCC right lateral cheek) removed on my face by a Dermatologist, and upon my return to Thailand my Dr emailed me advising that the Pathology report stated as follows:

MICROSCOPIC:

Sections of a nodular basal cell carcinoma, which extends to the deep margin over a 1mm front. The lateral margins are clear.

I called him and he said the Dermatologist didn't get it all and as he sent it off the cut out to pathology, this is what was found, and he said that I was required to see a plastic surgeon, I am assuming because its deep and might require a little cosmetic work ?

Not concerned as he said it's not the type of cancer that will spread, but if untreated could leave a big whole in my face.

Can anyone recommend a plastic surgeon in Udon Thani or Sakon Nakhon, will take them in BKK if none know of in the north-east.

Appreciate your feedback as usual.

The issue is more finding such a surgeon with experience removing skin cancers as these are not common among Thai.  It is also rather expensive using a plastic surgeon - the 3 I have had removed from arms were 25/25/30k.

But it does need to be taken care of and although they may not grow larger then can go deeper and as said cause serious damage (big hole in your face).

The closest place to you I can recommend is Khon Kaen University Hospital (Srinagarind). There is an American nurse working there as  a sort of expat liaison, contact her and see if she can recommend a specific surgeon and help make sure tat the surgeon understands that it is a BCC and he needs to excise enough to get clear margins. <[email protected]>

Hi Sheryl just an update and a kind thank you for the contact.

I got in touch with Karen via email and she referred me to the Plastic Surgeon in Khon Kaen, went there for an examination last Thursday, and returned the following week (today) for the procedure and the tumour was removed, as big as my eye, a nice 80-100mm long straight scare down my right cheek ensured, which I am sure will heal nicely, that or I will change my TVF name to Scare-face if it hasn't already been taken.

The initial consultation was 330 baht and the surgery today was 5,488 baht in total which I found was no strain on my anticipated budget based on lopburi3's outlay which I am assuming was done in a private hospital, suffice to say I will go to my local hospital in 5 days to have the stitches removed and then go for a follow up with the Plastic Surgeon and pathology results on the 13th next month.

Thanks once again for your assistance as both you and Karen have made my journey much easier than me going it alone.

Yes my prices were at large private Vejthani Hospital here in Bangkok so near top range - sorry, should have said that in my post.

No problem, I was expecting to pay what you stated yours cost, not being familiar here with the hospital systems, and I suppose it was an added bonuses to have only paid the 5,500 baht.

The hospital was pretty much on par to some hospitals back in Sydney, and as for the Plastic Surgeon, well the 80-100mm scare that he left on my right cheek looks as if it won't be leaving much of a scare, more of a straight line sort of like the crows feet around ones eyes as they age.
