PBTA President Ekasit Ngampichet (left) said the opening of the Central Road bypass tunnel will not be delayed by construction of a wheelchair-accessible overpass, as city councilman Sinchai Wattanasartsathorn looks on.

PATTAYA:--The opening of the Central Road bypass tunnel will not be delayed by construction of a wheelchair-accessible overpass, the head of the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association said.

Speaking at the PBTA’s May 22 meeting at the Grand Sole Hotel, Ekasit Ngampichet said the link tying the 800-million-baht Sukhumvit Road underpass to the pedestrian overpass near the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities has been severed and they are now separate projects.

As a result, the tunnel will open “soon” he said.

For most of May, contractors have been testing ventilation and lighting systems two crucial pieces of the longest underpass tunnel in Thailand.

"the opening of the Central Road bypass tunnel will not be delayed by construction of a wheelchair-accessible overpass"  so we are looking for new excuses.

All the failed businesses; all the millions of inconvenienced motorists and they still can't open on time.  This project says everything about Thai corruption; Thai (lack of) Education; Thai work force.

Thai work force? I think they were mostly Cambodian or Burmese. Thai manual labour migrated to factories around the same time as Thai degree holders started working checkout at 7-eleven.

Probably Thai foremen though.

How can it not not be delayed
when at least 2 previously proposed opening dates have already passed without it opening ?

I am rather hoping that when the new link road from route 7 to the Sattahip area is complete (sometime in 2019) it will negate any need for further underpasses as nearly all traffic going too or from Bangkok will use the new link, that's my wish anyway

I just cant wait for terminal 21 to open , we will need another tunnel to get there ,N Pattaya is going to be a nightmare, its bad enough now ,i forsee gridlock at weekends
