What kind of alarm system to install?

Featured Replies

My Mitsu Triton didn't come with any kind of alarm system, only a key with buttons for open and close and which supposedly has an immobiliser included. I want an alarm system similar to my old Isuzu, one that locks all the doors on startup, has a panic button on the key, beeps when doors lock and unlock etc. As the Triton only came with one remote key (the spare only opens the door manually) will an alarm system be incorporated into the present key, or will I have to have a separate fob? Are all alarm systems pretty much the same or should I be asking for a particular brand?

There are lots of different alarm set ups available. Look online motor accessary shop or Mitsu garage. They must fit something.

I have always found that a pedal lock with an engine immobiliser works just as well. Cheap quick to install and if you get a good one with two locks, around 3.000bt there ain't no way anyone can drive off with it.

I think you have more chance of winning spot the ball than getting one that will work via your key though.

Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks. I have to take it in to Mitsu for a service next month, I'll ask what they have.

As you say try Mitsu first because we ended up with a separate fob.

The wife's Yaris 7 years ago mine was fitted by an auto-electric accessory shop which Toyota took it to.

It's a TG ( top gunner ) digital alarm.

It's got a panic button which sounds like a bit like police car alarm, l use it for overtaking sometimes. :whistling:

2 out of 3 options you've mentioned are programmable to the car without any additional equipment.

Which two? My remote doesn't have a panic alarm and the vehicle doesn't lock the doors on startup or beep when locking or unlocking.

By anyone who has proper diagnostic equipment and knows how to use it.

 Ford Car Owners . !!.:post-4641-1156694083:

I would suspect that an alarm system on todays cars that isn't factory original is going to be going off all the time like in the 80's.  In the 80's people would install alarms in their cars and you would always hear them going off, once they became standard and operated with the new cars lock system the false alarms became quite rare.

Problem is whether it's the alarm or that CLUB thing pictured above the car can always be physically removed; lifted onto a flatbed or towed and they will deal with the anti-theft devices in the chop shop.

best system is hidden GPS and realizing soon after the incident that the car is missing and finding it quickly.
