Meechai says NLA can ask charter court to rule on “set zero”

Constitution Drafting Committee chairman Meechai Ruchupan said Monday that only the National Legislative Assembly has the right to ask the Constitutional Court to determine whether the “set zero” measure for the Election Commission goes against the will of the people or not.

 

The five incumbent election commissioners appear to be unhappy with the grim prospect of losing their jobs simultaneously after the NLA last week voted overwhelmingly to pass the controversial clause in the EC bill, which will end the term in office of all the five commissioners.

 

Mr Meechai said that he would not talk with any of the five election commissioners now about the “set zero” clause and change of structure of the EC “because they are still angry and they need to cool down first.”

I think this "set zero" decision is quite unfair to the current EC members. 

They have done their best to serve their masters by doing all they could do to prevent the implementation of the 2014 election. And now, absolutely no gratitude is shown to them! What a shame! :smile:

Surely under the constitution everybody in the country has the right to ask this?

'Exept under circumstances where...' But they voted for it. Too late now for second thoughts.
