Transferred from general at the request of poster.

The original post referred to Soi 6 bars not being allowed  to open before 6 pm every day.

Sat Down with several owners the other day. Don't want to say too much here right now. But what I can say is the word is it is beginning to happen at other bars as well.

Soi 6 has been due for demolition since God was in short pants; Walking Street too. They are a lucrative income stream for many people of influence and will not be dissappearing any time soon.

yea, bit of a silly game. prostitution is illegal but the cops are making money off of it. have to be seen to be doing something without actually doing anything. forcing the bars to not open before 6 wont make much difference to the income stream. pointless stuff like this has been going on for years.

If they done it to Chiang Mai then they can do the same in Pattaya, Bangkok and anywhere else in the country.

This time I really do believe they mean business, this is the beginning of the end for the bars in Pattaya.

Many bars/restaurants in Chiang Mai are open throughout the day. Some open at 5pm for alcohol consumption, because there's not a lot of passing trade until evening - besides, the bar girls don't start work until then. Same as most tourist areas, the police enforcement is sporadic. Closure time for the majority of these entertainment venues is 1am, apart from lock-ins.

As I'm a day person, and can still imbibe at several haunts, I couldn't care less about the late closures.

Talking to a bar owner in Soi 7.  Over the phone last night hes not worried at all.  As he said its all been done before. Pattaya as a tourist place would die a death if bars were closed wholesale. Its not and would take to many years to become family orientated. In that time Pattaya would die. His take is they will condense the bars from soi 7 upwards. Leaving from central road down as a relativley quite area. He knows of 3 bar owners in soi 6 buying bars in soi 7.

Pity, really. Soi 6 had character throughout the day, which is sadly lacking in Soi 7 - as are the frumps there..

Only ever walked down soi 6 to get to the sauna then back up to get to beach road. I think thats half the problem 3pm and from top to bottom of the soi music so loud and girls/ladyboys from either side of street trying to lure you in. Yes it had character but after the first time it was boring.where as soi 7 and 8 has its own character and a lot less intimidating during the day at least.

I wouldnt be too sure about that

Yes.  The owners I spoke with all agree, "this time is 'different' for sure."  At least one owner has been in the game here for 12 years...

Also we had 2 reports yesterday, several bars on Soi Buakhao and Walking street are coming under the same "6:00 Rule"  Which actually has been on the books from the beginning.  Just never enforced.

Exactly, there has been a law in place for many years that no alcohol can be served before 6pm.

Yep.  On the Surface that appears to be the catch. However I believe we know what is really going on now. However I feel uncomfortable talking about it on the Internet.

At some point soon I think it will be common knowledge to those that are interested at all in this.

i dont follow you. pattaya exists today because of prostitution and the foreign tourism it attracts. take it away and pattaya will die a slow death. i love pattaya and lived in jomtien for 9 years but i can not see pattaya becoming a family destination. its beaches are just to filthy. it is fantastic for cheap living and mongering in a warm climate.

I agree completely. If the water wasn't filthy they might have a chance without the bars.  I think a casino will really bring in tourists.  However you'll never get rid of working girls, here or anywhere else.

This entire topic is still under discussion in Pattaya news clippings and is now up to 24 pages HERE  So I guess we can close this topic.
