Authorities examine disco raft filled with juveniles in Kanchanaburi Friday night

KANCHANABURI — Police on Friday night raided five disco rafts along Kwai Noi River and found all of those aboard were minors.

After residents complained of loud noises and disturbances to the Damrongdhama Center of the interior ministry about juveniles partying on disco rafts along Kwai Noi River, authorities raided them to find all 186 of them were below 20.

Barred from entering pubs and clubs in Kanchanaburi, teens have resorted to party and drink alcohol on disco rafts.

Is the drinking age in Thailand 20?

It's 18 in Australia, (introduced by public pressure as they were sending 18yo lads to Vietnam.)

In Western Europe it's 16, except for spirits where the legal age is 18.

Just a slight correction there masuk. You needed to be 19, not 18, to go to V.

In the UK legal drinking age, and smoking age is 18. There is an exception for beer wine or cider with a meal when you can be 16, provided you are accompanied by an adult.

Did that in April,  had a great night.  Yes there were a number of rafts with teenagers on them and the noise from theirs was no different to ours.  They seemed well behaved really and some of the ladies were friendly raising their tops as they passed our raft.

The coppers   have acted to prevent a catastrophic tragedy. Consider this;

- The rafts really aren't the most stable of structures.

- Life rafts, life preservers and other safety  items are not readily available.

- It's night and dark.

- Most of those kids are drinking,  are not strong swimmers, and are wearing street clothes.

- The river has a current.

If a kid falls off, or there is a fire, or the raft sinks, no one is going to be able to do much to help. We'd see the bloated floating corpses popping up downstream a few days later while everyone  oohs and ahhs and sighs.

It's 18 in the UK but you are allowed in a pub to drink non alcoholic drinks at 16

I`m sure Norway is part of western Europe. There you have to be 18 for lower

than 22vol% alcohol, and 20 for 22vol% or stronger.
