Second hand 7M5T14A073FG seen on various European websites for between €45 and €170. Being a fuse block integrated with the BCM, it will be more expensive. Buying untested BCM's of any ilk over the internet is fraught with risk unless the seller clearly states that it is "tested as good".

According to an earlier post, the price locally charged the OP equates with the new price in the UK. My recent experience with pricing and purchasing Ford electrical stuff locally from Ford is the prices can be marginally higher here. Some assemblies are manufactured locally but plenty are made in India, US, Italy, Belgium and elsewhere.

I don't think the smudging of the barcode label is hiding anything but if the OP wants, he can locate where the new one is installed, take a picture and post it here. You got a 1-year repair warranty which is good.

I still cannot see how fitting a new, non silver calcium battery could have killed the BCM but since it is out of original warranty, there's no way of checking if bad practices by the Ford mechanics caused it such as unplugging modules with the battery still connected.

Regarding the battery that they returned as 'bad', I would be interested in what the static voltage is. Normal batteries if discharged below about 8.5 volts, are pretty much a write-off. If this one is still up around 10, 11 or 12 volts, I would suggest it's still good. Charge it up and flog it to a (non Ford) car owner.

OP has 1-year repair warranty so lets wait for 1 year and say a couple of week till the Ford franchise manager needs another bonus,  that's if they still take it to the same one.

Air- con has suddenly stopped working. Just cut off today. Would this have anything to do with the work recently done? I'm assuming it does. Looks like another visit to ford....?

sorry if the battery offline is below 13v I would throw it away. they are not like alkaline batteries for everyday use, they are there for power so that's why when you see a car battery being tested they put a low resistance load across the terminals to see if it can still make the current, in a car battery current is more important than voltage. you can have 14v between +ve & -ve but if you have one bad cell with a high resistance it won't have the current for your starter motor to turn the engine.

I had the same problem on my Ford a couple of years ago .

As usual they told us a load of old pony .  All they would say was " Electric problem "

The " knowledgeable " rep. told us " you have to turn the air off before you turn your engine off , and do not turn on again till after you have started your vehicle "

Yes thats what i do (been known for donkey yrs) but then again it doesn't really matter as sometimes i have forgotten & I've also noticed Toyota didn't care either as discovered after taking delivery after a service

My 10 year old Vigo A/C has never been turned off. Never turned it off on any ride...

I'm the same Transam and never had a problem with the a/c not starting.

It is Ford once again spouting rubbish.

That's because for years now the Aircons electrics don't kick in till the keys back from start Same with remote but it's easy to spot the delay.IMG_2792.JPG

That's just the fan, the aircon won't work until the motor is running.

okay , I stand corrected .

When you start the car the compressor clutch is not engaged, on starting the A/C reads "all OK" before engaging the clutch. Weeeeell that's how it used to work...:stoner:

There is no air whatsoever, the light is also flashing to say the bonnet is not closed...? Must be something they have done. Or not done...

The BCM (Body Control Module) is the electronic control unit that monitors and controls all of the systems in the car body. Electric windows,A/C functions, electric mirrors, electric locks, security systems, etc. It communicates with all the other modules via the cars vehicle bus.Mar 24, 2011

Surely they can't ask for more money now? It's definitely their mistake. I'm here now at ford waiting for their response. I really hope I can keep a cool head ... bloody stressful this.

Off topic but you will smile....I bought a new Samsung big fridge freezer with ice maker, ice maker had a prob, they sent 4 blokes round to sort it, twice..Lot's of head scratching. Next thing they came back with a bloke who flew up from BKK to fix local probs. He was there about 5 minutes, job done with a very small screwdriver to adjust water flow...:stoner:

My lovely Dad had a car with traficators, if that's the correct spelling.

Think the car was a "Shooting Brake" ?

Had an Austin Cambridge too.

All done . Free ?. They cleaned the air con ( not fully) aswell and said it will need to be serviced , cleaned etc at a later date.  The part of the car where the BCM unit is on the passenger side needs replacing . The part where it sits on just up from your feet. It's all out of shape , battered and falling apart. They said the bcm unit had been knocked by someone's foot probably and switched something. ( I have a 14 year old Thai son who is as hyper and deaf as he was when I first met him as a 4 year old) who was sat in the passenger seat with his mother on a long trip yesterday and the seat was still in the bed position .... ? So he was obviously wearing his seat belt...? and not kicking his feet every two seconds or throwing his arms around like he's continually in some sort of fit! But that's another story... nice lad otherwise.
