Man arrested for allegedly stabbing to death elderly woman
By The Nation

CHIANG MAI: -- Police have taken a suspect, who allegedly stabbed to death an elderly female boarding house owner in Chiang Mai over money, to reenact the murder.

At about 10.30am, Ekkachai Inta, 36, was taken to the crime scene at the boarding house, which had been owned by Kwanta Kuntharuen, 63, in tambon Chang Puek in Chiang Mai’s Muang district, amid tight security and many onlookers.

Ekkachai was arrested on Monday evening. He was accused of stabbing Kwanta 21 times at about 4pm on Sunday and then fleeing to Chiang Mai’s Fang district.

Chiang Mai police chief Maj-General Sarayut Sanguanphokhai alleged that Ekkachai told police he committed the crime while in a rage.

He said Ekkachai told police said he had rented a room of Kwant’s boarding house and when he moved out she refused to return the guarantee money he had given her.

Ekkachai allegedly told police he met the woman on Sunday by chance and demanded the money but she scolded him, resulting in him attacking her.
