Wow, who would have thought that  real punishment. Its not much but its more then expected many thought he would have walked away.

The only part I don't get.. he confessed.. went to jail and now his lawyer wants to appeal and bail.. how so if you confess ?

Agree, actually just a small punishment for the fiery death of 2 people caused by grossly reckless driving. But a step in the right direction.

Hopefully this creates a precedent which pushes for real punishment of boss and reese (if found guilty)!

Man jailed and has license revoked following crash that killed two

AYUTTHAYA: -- A Court on Wednesday sentenced a man to two years and six months in jail for driving his Mercedes into another car, killing two post-graduate students in Ayutthaya province in March last year.

Janepob Veeraporn, 37, will have his driving license revoked for life.

The Court initially ruled to jail Janepob for five years but reduced the sentence to 2 years and six months as the defendant confessed.

Janepob's Mercedes slammed at high speed into the back of a Ford sedan carrying Thanthapat Horsaengchai, 34, and Kritsana Thaworn, 32, on Phahlyothin Road in Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district on March 13.

The Ford burst into flames and both post-graduate students were killed.

It is not known whether Janepob will be granted bail or not.

So, only 5 years for killing two people, and then halved because he confessed?  God, this countries laws are so totally <deleted> UP!

The part I don't get is how can you appeal if you confess ? I mean.. appeal what.. the height of the sentence ? Lets hope he won't be on bail to wait his appeal.

I just don't understand these lawyers that advise their clients to appeal. 2 and a half years! !!he should be doing cartwheels of happiness. He'll be out in 18 months with good behaviour.

An appeal will last years and he might get the 5 years he deserves.

Thai lawyers never seem to have the clients best interests in mind.

..... and the Redbull comments have started already!

Man not convicted of crime- Thaigeezers moan. Man CONVICTED of crime- Thaigeezers still moan.

Just no pleasing some people.

Edit: I read the full article and this is annoying: 'The court also dismissed a charge of DUI against Jenphop, citing insufficient evidence and a flawed police investigation.' Someone needs their backside kicking but it will never happen. The whole system is corrupt.

In every country in the world you can appeal the severity of the conviction.

But if the appeal is accepted he will probably be released on bail, in 18 days instead of 18 months

That's 1.25 years for each dead person it's disgusting.  Any blood tests?   if he was a farmer he's get 20 years

edit "flawed Police investigation" means?  means he's rich

Embarrassing legal system. Has failed every party except the guy in the dock.

What use is a confession when the crime is on video and the wrongdoing is plain to see?

And appealing an already halved sentence when it was already commuted generously is a disgrace. I hope the sentence is at least served although i guess it won't be

Rich people very rarely go to jail. They can appeal their confessions for 20-25 years before it goes to the Supreme Court.

Then the Supreme Court will reduce their sentences again, so they only have to go for 25% of their original sentences. But 30 years

ago you could pay someone  to do your sentence in prison, so really the rich never went prison. Now, it probably is a little

more difficult to pay someone to do your time, but probably not impossible. Amazing Thailand.

Lawyers in Thailand only have their clients money in mind and therefore their own ''best interests''.    Just ask the poor injured kid that lost 4 million to one of these crooks !

The bigger problem is no jury system when someone can plead 'not guilty' and get a fair trial. Here you HAVE TO plead guilty (even if you are not) and you get the 'bonus' of 50% off and you can STILL APPEAL.  Back in the Dark Ages.

It's not like they found a small amount of yaba at his girlfriends apartment. For that he might get a double life sentence. No he only killed two college students. Give him a light sentence and let him appeal it until it goes away. That seems fair.

I agree that the prosecution and verdict were a step in the right direction but the sentence was abysmal. 10 years with no 50% off for pleading guilty (what else could he plead?) would have been fairer for killing people like this.

Remember the mushroom pickers!!!!????

And, as usual very poor reporting:

- On what grounds was he given bail?

- Does the bail have a start date and an end date?

- Was his passport confiscated as part of the bail conditions?

- Can he travel freely anywhere in Thailand or is he restricted to a certain area?

- Earlier reports said his drivers licence is cancelled for life but no mention in later reports.

- Does he have to report to someone every 7 days?

Unbelievably poor reporting.

That's right, then he will spend a few years in judicial  limbo waiting to go back to court. If loses, which is highly likely, with the video, there is no dispute that he did that. I guess they would be appealing the sentence, which is at the bottom of the barrel of low anyway. So next lowest would be 2 years and suspended. Or the full 5 years for being an idiot and going back to court. if he chose to appeal it he might actually recieve justice from the stress of a long drawn out appeal.
