This should be a short thread since I only have three questions.

I like the Ford Fiesta ans would like to buy a 2015 used one but I am concerned about all the reported transmission problems.

so first question :  what year models  had the problem

second question : I understand ford has extended the warranty to ten years, does it also cover used cars? (is it transferable to new owner)

Third:   Question:   if I had to pay on my own for transmission problem repair , what are the average costs .

Why buy a ride with a known problem...I am sure many folk will offload a problem ride, that ride is passed on to someone else to get pissed off with, could be you..

Aside the AT problems , As it is it seems to sell well below  the asking price or comparable vehicles which IMO are not as good, so if the problem is covered by warranty and or  the cost of repair is less or the same of the savings, in an other words if I save 60,000 baht and it cost me 60,000 baht to repait then it is a wash and I have an IMO superior vehicle

Thoughts??

I would not touch a Ford Fiesta with a barge pole!!!

We are at present fighting with Ford via the Consumer Protection office in Phuket town.

Our Fiesta went in to the dealer on the 3rd July for a "new design clutch" the 5th to be fitted on this 2011 model.

It was supposed to be 3 days.

While it was in there they found a problem with the radiator and according to them have no stock in Thailand. It was due in the country on the 28th and still nothing.

Not wishing to hijack this thread but how can Ford not have a radiator in the country?

Sounds like BS to me but that's what they tell me.

This car has been nothing but trouble, and the dealer here couldn't give a toss. They are totally useless and couldn't care less about their customer service.

As Transam said, why would anyone buy a car with a known problem?

Ten Year Warranty, Lol, ten years of the car in and out and in and out - take my advice - don't do it!!!!

Thank you Goldleinkhathu , and sorry to hear about your problem, I appreciate your response and would certainly take it under  serious consideration.

Sorry I could not give you and all the others who responded  a "like," for some reason the like button has disappeared on my browser.

Sorry forgot to answer your questions, I got lost in my rant :giggle:

Even the latest model has the problem, this one we've been given is jumping around like a kangaroo.

The warranty goes with the car and would transfer to the next owner.

Each new clutch has been around 40.000 from what I remember (bills are all with the consumer protection legal team so I can't tell you exactly)

Then there's the cost of hire cars while the car is being fixed, then there's the cost of medication while dealing with these people ,

phone bills to Bangkok main office constantly, not to mention other parts that just fall of.

:whistling:

I can understand your frustrations I don't think I want any part of them, will go with a different car

I has a Chevy Colorado but sold it when I went back to the US for work. Wife was feuding with her sister and thought that she will be driving it while we were gone.

Since then we have being renting a car every year when we came for a month or more at the time and have spend more money on rentals than we got from selling the chevy.

I have a budget of 250K to 300 k to buy a used car  and drive while here while visiting,, and the sister will have it while we are gone (she takes care of MIL FIL passed away last year.)

So perhaps a Nisan March or a Mitsubishi Mirage then.

I like the practicality of a five door with the cargo room of the folding back seats. Will buy an other Chevy pick up when I come back full time again  in a couple of years.

Thank you again for taking the time to reply .

Exactly our experience when dealing with the ford dealer in Phuket, they are absolutely useless as far as customer service and satisfaction is concerned, keep your vehicle for days and sometimes weeks without working on it and when you get it back it still has the same problem

Do what we did sell it take your losses and buy a decent reliable brand of vehicle

What a useless mob, have to import parts for vehicles under warranty, which can take weeks because ford thailand do not keep a full range of spare parts for them

As long as you only need a battery, brake linings, wiper blades or similar items they should be able to supply them even if they have to come from ford bangkok by camel train

I don't want to get into a fight with you but "Camel"? Snail more like it

Batteries, - had numerous until I stopped buying Ford's own.

Wiper blades, had to replace the back once and the front 3 times.

Wheel nuts, keep falling off, every time we change tires we have to buy new nuts.

Plastic cover for tow bar on the back falls off every time you have to go through flooding or over a ramp, stopped replacing after the 3rd.

Electric window control on the passenger side won't go up but will go down, same problem on this new model car that they've give us

Ford badges on the wheels fall off.I can go on and on.

As for the service team, they NEVER call you, you have to call them. They tell you the manager is not in the building but if you sit there long enough out of sight eventually he comes out and you catch him .

They don't call Consumer protection either , they refuse to meet up and discuss the claim. They pass you to Bangkok and Bangkok knows nothing.

On and on it goes.

It would be easy to just sell the car ( to some unsuspecting fool) but that's not fair and I wouldn't be able to live with myself, I'd hate it if someone did that to me. If we sell to a tent they will offer peanuts due to it's reputation.

I can see why some Fiesta drivers have taken steps to protest outside Government House in Bangkok. I'd like to smash it through Fords front window but that would only make trouble for me. So we will continue with our fight and I will continue to tell the truth on forums and hope word spreads and it takes it's toll.

700.000B for nothing but trouble! And they couldn't give a F*#K.

:bah::bah::bah:

When the ranger wildtrak we owned was 30 months old and had done 45,000 klm we got a trade in price from ford phuket of 400,000 baht, which was refused

When the ranger was 54 months old and had travelled 65,000 klm Pearl toyota got a trade in price for us of 500,000 baht, which we gratefully excepted

They got this price from a independent used car dealer

For me it's very simple. It was simple in the UK, some years ago, and it's much simpler here by far. There are no scrapyards around here... The main reason I gave up on my GSX-R is that it's outside the bubble - a radiator (not a new one...) would cost at least 8 or 9 thousand baht, but none could be found for several months searching... Imports are stupidly expensive so eventually it gets sold down the line.

I sold a '92 GSX that wouldn't run on Gasoline to someone too stupid to realise what a nightmare he was buying. I spent 44 baht per litre to fill her up with gasoline to make her run well enough to sell... I sold my '02 GSX-R due to general failures getting rather uneconomical to fix. My friend bought a used Honda Accord, works out fairly expensive when he works on it (the Auto transmission again...).

If you want a reliable car, buy Toyota. Any questions?

I think that your 2015 Fiesta will still cost more than a brand new Yaris with CVT - and they're pretty decent cars.

For a used vehicle, then look at something like a 2013 2.0G Camry with gas tanks for around 600,000 to 700,000... My brother got one, and it's nice, but a new car is nicer.

We are not the sort that keep changing cars every few years. Our last car ( a Honda) lasted 13 years and to be honest had it not been for the rubber around the doors it was in great shape inside and out.

Cars are just a loss of money as far as I"m concerned and I have better things to do with my money.

We bought this in good faith and were not expecting all these problems.

The car looks like new inside and out even though it's now almost 6 years old.

We were hoping to run it into the ground not off a cliff :giggle:

As for the radiator, I'm beginning to wonder if it needs replacing due to having to take the engine to bits every five minutes for all these clutches. I don't know a thing about engines , can anyone reading help me out on that one? The car has just under 60.000 on  the clock. How long do radiators last or is that a "how long is a piece of string" question. The car has been serviced regularly.

It's now just over a month since it went in and still nothing!

Gone are the days of brass radiator header tanks etc problems...Modern rads last for ever unless you are unlucky....

Can you give more details about the "clutches" thing..?

As I said Transam I know very little about under the bonnet of a car.

I refer to it a a clutch, is it now called a transmission?

It's the part that they keep having to replace on these Fiesta's, the part that makes the gears not shift smoothly.

The original lasted less than 2 years then we've had two more since then. This new part is supposed to be a totally new design.

This is what it went in for a month ago. It was supposed to take 3 days then the update of the computer system. Then they called to say there was a problem with the radiator and it would have to be replaced, that was a month ago!

Is it just like a light bulb, you can have a good one for years or a new one that only lasts a month or so?

Sorry for my ignorance, ask me anything about cooking or gardens

OK, wel the box thing will probably be ongoing....

Radiator, if it wasn't losing water and the ride was notoverheating then I would question it...I smell a rat....

It had been loosing water, I'd been topping it up for about a month before it's service, it wasn't overheating because I was keeping an eye on it.

Believe me, I smell Rats all over the place every time we have to go to that dealer :giggle:

This whole thing is so frustrating and stressful I can't tell you.

We got this message the other day:

"Hi Customer, just touching base to let you know that we are working on your case.

However, we don't have an update for you as yet.

We want to take this opportunity to assure you that as soon as an update becomes available we will contact you.

Thank you"

That's all.:laugh: They can't be bothered to pick up a phone and tell us what the hell is going on :bah:

The "Touching base" sounds cool and reassuring doesn't it.....

A weee story...For some unknown reason the radiator header tank spout that feeds the expansion bottle on my Vigo broke off. I could not fix it. Went to Toyota, they said we must order a new rad, give us a couple of daus...Next day phone call, your rad is here ready for fitting...... ..:stoner:

Funny you should say that. First they said it was some rubber tubes, we needed two . They cost about a thousand baht each so we said go ahead. It was the next day after they'd fitted them that they said it was the radiator.

It's like going to the dentist , if the dentist says you need a filling replacing you just go with it, but I have heard of dentists that take them out just to replace them and make some money.

I have no way of knowing what the hell is going on

If you don't drive like a fairy the dual-clutch system is excellent. If you do, then it has the same issues as Porsche and Audi do with theirs.

Then a manufacturer should point that stuff out.....

I/m a little lost on this ... are you talking about 2013 produced Fiesta Ecoboost ... the last Ecoboosts were built end 2013 even if you bought yours in 2015 it would have been built end 2013. You can check by putting your VIN number in here ...  https://www.etis.ford.com/

Loosing water on this model is normally the water pump ...it's quite a job to change ... several hours ...normally they would pressure test the system first to confirm.

So ask them ... what was the result of the pressure test?  what is your next step?

The system should not loose any water ...ever ... the other reason for loss of water on that model is the cap on the expansion tank, sounds unlikely but it is a fact.

Posted

Ours is a 2011Fiesta Sports. The rental is a Fiesta Sports new shape but it must be after the 2014 as they still had the old shape.Anyway  they're both crap. I have no idea about Ecoboost .

For all I don't know about under the bonnet I certainly don't drive like a fairy.

To be fair it does move in higher gears and very smooth BUT in traffic it's like a kangaroo and you can hear it grating all the time.

I've never said it's not a fun car to drive when it's OK but this one spends more time in the garage than it does at home

Transam, I think you're right, they haven't a clue what they're doing

Posted

@Jas21, We've already had a water pump changed once, and yes it was a quick job, sorry I forgot to add it to the list of problems we've already had

I'd forgotten about it.

It overheated one night when I was at the hospital, I left it there and Ford went and picked it up, that was in it's early days.

I'm curious to what a fairy is, and how does it/he/she actually drive.

I gave up on ford when I had my Fiesta,  worst service.  I was watching mine from the lounge when a guy strolled up, got in,  turned on the radio and reclined the seat.  Had a nice time for 20 min after his lunch.  The car just sat there for another half hour so I went and asked if they were done as I had better things to do and they said "yes,  it's ready now"! They basically left us sitting there for an hour because of their ineptness despite the fact there were 8 employees sitting around in the service department.

I also had a problem with the steering rack,  they replaced the whole thing under warranty.  Known problem,  2011 model.
