MAE HONG SON, 22 August 2017 (NNT) – A landslide has cut off a roadway in Sob Moey District of Mae Hong Son as heavy rains are predicted to return to most of the country later this week.

Despite a drawdown of rains in the past few days, a water logged hillside gave way in Sob Moey District of Mae Hong Son, dumping soil between the 173rd and 177th kilometer markers of the district’s roadway and leaving only one lane useable. Warning signs and traffic markers have been set up to direct vehicles using the road.

Swelling waterways in the district have also prompted warnings for residents, who have been asked to report any calamities to authorities.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, Mayor of Kornburi Tai Somchart Dechdon has led an inspection of the Koi waterway following heavy rains. The stream has overflowed into over 100 Rai of farmland. Locals have been encouraged to join efforts to clear away water weeds to aid drainage of the floodwaters.

Minister of Social Development and Human Security Pol Gen Adul Saengsinghakaew is in Khon Kaen province to hand out policy concerning flood relief, calling for volunteers to begin clean up and management of garbage.

Continuing inflows to the Chao Phraya River have necessitated the Chao Phraya Dam to increase its release, hiking waterways downstream in Singburi, Ang Thong and Ayuthaya by 30-40 centimeters.

The Meteorological Department has said heavy rains will return later this week with downpours expected in the north, northeast, east and southwest.

Well that should slow down the human traffickers for a while. Every cloud has a Silver lining.
