Hi got year old Fortuner, changed battery month ago, now its got this. What is it? Should I claim guarantee? Is it affects battery? Or just clean it up.

Could be a gas escape....Go Tesco and buy a tin of Sonax spray oil...Orange tin....Give it a good spray and wipe off the crap....Clean, then spray both terminals and leave...

Two batteries in under a year? You might be cooking the batteries & the corrosion is the outer physical sign of it.....Might want to have the charging range checked....

You can clean it & wire brush the terminal - then put the anti corrosion spray.....A mix of baking soda & water applied with a brush win take away the corrosion.....Be sure and pull the cable & wire brush the cable inside & the terminal....Better yet if you can find one of these - just show the pic at a tool store or auto supply.......

 

You might want to check if there's a crack in the casing or or post sealed area or somewhere around the battery terminal area....

Are those two holes vents? Seems like corrosion around one of them - poor engineering if it is....

Changed the battery on a Fortuner after a year? And now the new battery has problems?

 

Go to Toyota, something's wrong with the car, not the battery.

Go to Tesco and buy some baking soda. Wet the area and sprinkle some soda on it. It will effervesce. When it stops,  wash the soda gunk off. It will not hurt the terminal meat or the plastic.

 

If it doesn't get rid of it all repeat. Put some Vaseline on the terminal area. Then you can monitor the situation.

 

The blue colour suggests that it is copper, so the copper earth wire crimp might not be really tight.

 

If it repeats and you don't want to add this to your periodical car wash then get the battery terminals re-crimped.

Yeah, those Fords might give you a strong 4-7 years....

Meanwhile the Izuzu & Toyotas are still running strong 15-20+ years later

(as a full service work vehicle) & still have part availability after 4 or 5 years.....

They are pretty though & make impressive city cruisers.....

My Ford Ranger 4d, 4x4, 2.5 turbo diesel will be 16 years old in December and still runs well after 362,xxx km and I can still get parts for it. I had the clutch replaced last month for the first time.

 

In its time it has been the family car, builders truck carrying materials to build the house, pickup truck, minibus and at one point I put a 1,300 litre water tank on the back along with a Honda engined water pump and used it as a water tanker during a drought.

 

If I had the money to spare I would buy a new Ford Ranger 2.2 auto tomorrow. That would probably last until 2033 when I will be 89 years old.

I doubt the new one will last as long with no probs....Too many gizmos in control...That goes for any ride...

Fortuna battery fault how did it get onto Fords.

New vehicle are always improving one way or another what makes people think they won't last.

Our new manual truck shows when to change gear l like this gizmo. :biggrin:

Because if a gizmo goes wrong the guy round the corner probably can't fix it unless he has a computer hook up...:stoner:

Sorry I don't own a Ford or a Toyota so cannot feel smug and superior.

 

It has to do with the manufacturer of the battery and nothing to do with the manufacturer of the truck, but hey.:stoner:

Could be either IMO but because of history 2 batteries in a short time my bet is an ECU problem.

The great advantage for me is that my truck is old and simple to fix and the guy we use doesn't "need" a computer.

Yet people managed to do it for nearly a 100 years without a "gizmo". If you can't judge when to change gears on a manual without help, you should be driving an auto.

Especially for you,  To me it's a new design engine and it sorter shows you can change up without labouring the engine.

As you know most cars on the dash screen show gears 1 2 3 4 5 6 independently & have a rev counter,  whatever gear your in, say in 4th at 1400 revs with this engine it seemed low revs to me but it comes up and shows a +5 by the side of the 4 which l like when in and around slow traffic, not that l'm fuel saver.

It won't show + for you to change until the engine speed is appropriate.

The engine is very quiet so l find that it is a handy gizmo that's my personal take that's all, hope that's not too obscure. :biggrin:

Most manual single cabs these days seem to be happy to clonk along in hi gear,only need to change much in the City, been using a new s cab Toyo basic non auto, hardly missed the auto box, bit expensive but a nice truck .Fords better value imo.

Its new Fortuner TRD around 1 year old.
1 battery died, went flat after 1 year. So changed instead charging it.
New one cost me like say 7k

2 months later got that mess.

I only use dvr camera and sometimes charge phone. Dont think I strech electrics so much.

Its on guarantee so might claim it.

Buy a cheap volt meter, start the engine and test voltage at all rpm's. Should be in the constant high 13's, if way higher it will cook the battery..

According to battery expert
"Mr Google"

Voltage from the rectifier/charger circuit could be as high as 14.8 volts DC while recharging a 12v lead acid battery to full.
Once the battery has attained full charge voltage should drop to
13.0 - 13.8 v to float or trickle charge which keeps the charge up and reduce sulphation.

The battery once fully charged
and engine not running should read between 12.6 and 12.8 volts
