You mean showing a passport or other ID wouldn't clear that up in 5 minutes?   Or even just a quick query in the immigration TM30 database for the foreigner registered at the address?

 

Realistically though if any foreign government has a name and/or passport number then Thai authorities will locate the person very quickly.  If they *don't* have a name but do have a picture then there might still be a suspicion that the person is in Thailand and then spreading the picture may definitely help.   

 

Yes that will lead to a few false IDs.. but wouldn't clearing that up be worth it if it means you occasionally catch a real one and save a number of children?  (IMHO: yes it's worth it when done discretely.  No it's not worth it when done in the usual pompous Thai police style, inviting press over and putting someone in a newspaper in the fact-finding stage.)

I was speaking of publishing photos to the general public, not to law enforcement.

 

If photos are made available to the general public and someone thinks Mr. X looks just like one of them, then gossip, rumor and even a brief follow up chat with police could be enough to plant the notion in neighbors' minds that Mr. X is suspected of being a pedophile.

Actually the chances of winning the uk lottery is now 1 in 45 million since increasing the numbers to 59.

But back to topic.  These guys should be hung by the scrotum with piano wire.  No punishment can be too severe.  Having said that, sex crimes within the local population is very very much higher and runs into the hundreds of thousands. I'd love to see the authorities seriously tackling child prostitution and sex offenders of children in their own community.  When my daughter of 13 was having sex with a 30 year old (married with children), the police laughed and said "She's a naughty girl but there's nothing we can do".  Their attitude to underage sex in the Thai population is criminal in itself.
