That circlip can be a right bugger to get back in without the "proper" tool  I fought with it for half hour before  having a lightbulb moment  of using a G clamp and socket  to persuade it into near position, using a screw driver for the final satisfying click into place.

 

Front bake action restored for a while.

I have always used a flat blade screw driver to fix and remove circlips and never had a failure. If you don't feel comfortable, use a rag to cover the area to catch the circlip if if it flies off.

This circlip is in a 20mm + deep bored hole retaining the hydraulic piston, there is no way just to use a flat headed screwdriver  a rag to catch the things is always a good idea.

Bought this little beaut last week, 21 model, 3,800kms, one owner. We sometimes have rides out for lighter weight bikes up here in Chiang Mai. Have the Z650 for bigger bikes and touring.

Fitted a tail tidy today to the KTM.

Well a flat blade screw driver has the ability to either compress or expand a circlip. Based on its position will depend on if it is compressing, expanding (tensioning) or doing buggar all (technical term). Avoid doing buggar all. Add a tension and twist and robert's your mother's brother with a rag to catch it.

Ordered new tires, handels, brake levers, mirrors.

Still none the wiser as to how a flat bladed screwdriver  can remove or insert an internal bore circlip  external circlip yes 100% agree.

What did I do to my bike? my Wave with 148k km on the clock has had a slipping clutch for some time now, so took it into my local shop.

The main problem was the centrifugal clutch, same idea as a chainsaw, was well worn, the main clutch basket had a lot of play in it, and the clutch springs were worn, the clutch cork plates were pretty good not that worn.

So had it all replaced now ok, one thing the clutch springs are heavier than the old ones. making, for now a stiff gear change, but now a lot better than before.

Total cost 3500 baht, most parts were genuine Honda parts, now working well.
