Briton captures iPhone 10 thief on Samui

A Briton, 66, managed to overpower a young Thai man and put him in a headlock after the Thai allegedly stole an iPhone X from the Briton’s girlfriend on Koh Samui on Tuesday.

Pol Captain Boonnam Srinarat, deputy inspector of Borphut police station, said Sutthipong Chumket, 25, was captured by the Briton, who wanted to be identified only as John.

Sutthipong was found about 100 metres from a traditional massage parlour where he allegedly stole the smartphone from John's girlfriend, Pimphan Sathong, 29.

Pimphan said she was waiting for John at the massage parlour when Sutthipong came in to inquire about the service. She replied she was not a masseuse and she went inside the shop to call a masseuse for him.

The man later said he would leave for food and come back later. Five minutes later, Pimphan realised her iPhone X had been taken from the desk, so she alerted her boyfriend.

John then rode his motorcycle to look for the suspect and found him about 100 metres away.

John was cut with a knife on one of his hands while trying to capture the suspect. The Briton told police he would waive the physical assault charge out of sympathy for the suspect.

I feel the  waive of charge is better news than the theft or capture. Puts a positive spin on farangs.

Yes, his girlfriend.

They were on holiday from Chaiyapum.

She had been to the massage shop to say hello to one of her friends from Chaiyapum who works there.

John had been off visiting a friend of his (who owns a bar in Koh Samui) and returned to find that his GFs (fiancee actually) phone had gone missing.

Hope that's cleared everything up for you.

...only made it 100M, in 5 minutes

I'm going with silly John...

He only got a knife wound on his hand, could so easily been a much more tragic ending...

Get the G/F another phone on insurance, or get another G/F if you don't have insurance...

Have a go heroes often end up deceased !!!

Better to be a dead hero than live to be his next victim.

In this case the victim was some one close to him

Is an iPhone worth someone’s life because silly John could have been fatally wounded and most of the iPhones that are owned by Thais are fakes

Too bad, you left the iPhone openly to tempt him.

You forget to mention the phone itself.. iPhone 10x is the most expensive on the market now. This fact alone may answer your other questions

wot? - like did 'he' buy it for her? :post-4641-1156694083:

Didn't I read about an exact same incident happening quite some time ago which was also caught on camera inside the shop?

An I phone is not worth anybody's life. All the many Thais I know and who do own an I-phone, own the real thing. I don't know anybody who owns a fake one.

Well done - be careful next time though as a man's life doesn't mean anything in Thailand.

It might help if you yourself (and those other apologists here) stopped using the derogatory "farang" word to describe themselves.

We are not "farang". We are westerners, Europeans, English, etc. not some guttural word used by the Thais to look down on us and point the finger. And yes, I am very aware of where the word originates but after living in Thailand for over a decade, I also know exactly how it is used, not as a curiosity as you would have it explained but as a means of bad mouthing people who are not Asian, not Thai and from the aforementioned countries and areas.

Only a head lock, lucky thief if it was someone more upset there would be teeth missing too, G/F or not less burglars the better

Good man John !!

Not sure if I would have a go myself but the loss of a $1000. ( £1000 )  iPhone is enough to get the blood boiling !

John is very lucky all the other Thais in the vicinity didn't join in and kick the daylights out of him and stomp his head. John is just a "guest" in their country and has no right whatsoever to show aggression towards any Thai.

Being in the "right" don't add up to a mound of @%$#! for a farang .

Ok, next we got to find a policeman who can think.
