Shinawatra siblings ‘should be ashamed’, says Prayut

Thaksin and Yingluck in Tokyo last week.

Former government leaders Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra should feel ashamed for appearing in public even though they are lawbreakers, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Tuesday.

Prayut said he did not feel embarrassed after Thaksin and Yingluck travelled to Japan and stayed there for a few days last week. He said that authorities had taken all the legal measures regarding the siblings.

The Shinawatras are both wanted by Thai authorities for separate alleged wrongdoings. They have lived in self-exile overseas after fleeing the country – Thaksin in 2008 and Yingluck last year. They have appeared together in several Asian countries over recent months.

“We cannot enforce our country’s laws overseas. If foreign countries do not send them back [for prosecution in Thailand], that’s it. Do you get it?” Prayut told reporters at Government House on Tuesday.

“I don’t have any feeling about them. They should have been ashamed. They broke the law and they still dare to go out,” the prime minister said.

When serving as the Army chief, Prayut led a coup in May 2014 that overthrew a government led by Yingluck’s caretaker successor. Yingluck had been removed from the PM’s seat a few months earlier by a court order after she was found to be guilty of abusing her power by moving the National Security Council secretary-general at that time.

The Junta cleverly granted themselves impunity, so they can literally do anything they want without any repercussions... basically gold plated get out of jail cards...

They overthrew a democratically elected government; have promised to crack down on corruption but as yet will not let their own financial affairs be investigated; have at the moment decided that no action will be taken against the DPM regarding the watch debacle when it is patently and blatantly obvious that the man is a liar; have squandered Thailand's money on unnecessary tanks and submarines; have suppressed gatherings and to certain extent, freedom of speech............ and so much more.

What particularly grates is the fact that Yinluck (and I'm not a supporter of the Shinawatras) has been judged guilty because the rice scam/fiasco/theft happened on her watch, however we are now seeing that the distribution of many millions of baht of government funds to the poor has been pilfered/diverted by corrupt officials and this is under the little generals watch, so is he any different and will he be prosecuted??

All of them, then he replaced them all with his own laws.

The only difference between him and the other law-breakers is that he had tanks under his control.

I bet this is BS

I bet that Prayut thinks of both Thaksin and Yingluck every single day and every single night, wishing that the Thai people liked him as much as they love them.

The sad bit is that they never, ever will.

sob...

Colluding with the most corrupt, venal elements in Thailand to appoint himself God and then throw anyone jail that complains about it and protecting and perpetuating mass corruption.

Sometimes it is better to be quiet and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt...!!!

“I don’t have any feeling about them. They should have been ashamed. They broke the law and they still dare to go out." And so should you Mr "PM" but you don't understand what shame is.

Strange words in a country that shows no shame at any level!

I think everyone does get it, with the exception of this guy and his mob.

The DPM just said last week they were still being pursued overseas.

The question should be Prayut do you get it why other countries do not send them back?

I've said this before. But until Thai's wake up as most South American countries did and decide that regardless of what 'immunity' military leaders grant themselves after a coup, they can and will be prosecuted after the fact, this story is destined to be repeated Ad Nauseum,

When a few South American Generals started going to jail for their coup escapades, sort of stopped the whole coup thing in its tracks.

Shame is a word the good General should look up in a dictionary, he may find it might easily apply to him and his cohorts in crime, because last time I looked, staging a coup d'etat is a crime, except it appears here in LaLa Land

Wasn't he the one trying to get interpol & cooperative countries to arrest them

I guess if seen in public they may have a good chance of catching them
