I can understand as sometimes on the phone, some of the Apple customer repair advisors are a bit of an arrogant lot. It also once happened to me many years ago when my graphics card on a MacPro faulted and the Apple fellow refused a repair. I wrote a letter directly to the headquarters in Cupertino/USA and few weeks later, miracle!....received a very polite call and the issue was solved, the card replaced on site. You always run into arrogant and lazy people in any after sales. If they act to, just write a letter to the headquarters of the brand and usually the problem is solved as they don't want to have you running around forums giving them a bad name.

You won't be able to afford to look at anything else after buying Apple.

i had a new under warranty  macbook air that i sold before warranty expired. it was very nice but the storage was too small.  also a new white 2006 macbook that never needed service until apple warrant was expired. the dvd drive failed, would no longer sleep, finally screen developed degradation. i may replace the screen but do it myself because apple service is crazy expensive. 3rd party repair in thailand is priced much better and they do good work.  currently have a 2012 macbook pro , and old hackintosh and a newer xeon 12 core hackintosh

absolutely...it is a real pure breed stalion !!....strangely this model is a bit cheaper on the Thai Apple website, then in Europe, unless I am mistaken. Strange as usually the other accessories/computers are always a few hundred cheaper on the Apple European websites then in Thailand.

It looks like it will be one of these, I already have a small HP and have been very pleased with it. I want a bigger one but my budget is around 30.000 Baht, and I want a large screen no smaller than 15, so that puts the Dell way out of my price range, so yes, Lenovo or HP.

I like the Lenovo that folds back, has a 15 screen and costs around 24.000Baht. Anyone got any better ideas?

Would you consider a chromebook? (though only Acer do a 15.6" screen and not easy to source chromebooks in Thailand)

the imac pro is imo an interim compromise-product to cover their butts for screwing up on the last mac pro, beautiful though impractical.  a newly designed mac pro will follow, perhaps with 24 core xeon option?

Then the obvious answer should be NO.

Some things are not so obvious. User requirements are not necessarily set in stone and alternatives might be viable. With all the talk about Apple Macs or high spec machines does the user really have to spend that money for what he wants to do? Even for 30k he isn't going to get a laptop with a great spec. and if most of his time is on the internet and isn't needing to download specialist software, then a chromebook might do the trick, particularly if it is one of the later models such as the Samsung Chromebook Plus which is available on Lazada last time I looked. Also the higher spec screen may give a better display than what is on offer on a standard 15.6" windows laptop. I find it quite disappointing seeing all those dull screens (Dell included) when walking around Power Buy.

I am also on the market for a new laptop.

It will only be used for travelling and not in the house in Thailand where I use a desktop PC and a tablet.

One thing is for sure; min FHD screen and not over 1.5kg, screen size max 13.3".

My current Dell laptop is 5 years old and it's time to change, the screen is not the best but one of the most important features, I think.

No I found acer a big disappointment, it would have to be a last resort.

Why not use the tablet during your travels?

Typing was dreadful after about 2 years use, letters were popping up all over the place. Almost impossible to type at all.

Needed a quick blow with a compressed air canister to get the dust out.

Now there's a thing, you just may have a point there. Is there any Acer 2-1 at least 14 ins screen, good picture and sound that you would recommend?

Previously you said NO ACER. But you will never get a 'good' sound from a couple of small speakers, depending on your interpretation of 'good' of course. NUC i5 model, into a pair of M-Audio BX5s, Logitech wireless key & mouse, all viewed on my big Samsung. Absolutely perfect.

Maybe I will, it has 2k screen but the lacking keyboard is a problem but I guess a Bluetooth one will do the trick.

I already used the tablet for short travel trips and that was fine.

Acer Spin 5 looks quite good. 13.3 or 15in  1080p IPS screen, i5-8250. 256g SSD, 8gb ram, Windows 10 for around 27,000 baht. Claims to have good sound.

Funny I was just looking at it on Amazon, yes looks quite nice, below 20k baht there.

For my photo editing on the go, a tablet is not up to the task but the specs above will do the trick.

Which shop did you see it in?

Am I better to buy online? I have always avoided this as buying from a shop, you can always go back and get anything fixed under the warranty.

I don't fancy all the hassle of having to post it back and wait for ages to have it returned.

All warranty issues and servicing is done through official service centers, even if you bought it in a shop - it makes no difference.
