Top brass down at the scene of the shark attack - confirm "Sai Noi" beach closure indefinite

Senior officials visiting the scene of the shark attack on a Norwegian man have confirmed that the beach will remain closed for an unspecified time.

 

Head of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources Jatuporn Burutphat and the governor of Prajuab Khirikhan Phallop Singhaseni were with their respective entourages inspecting the Sai Noi beach yesterday in the Hua Hin area.

 

Earlier in the week Norwegian Werner Danielsen, 54, suffered a leg wound after he was bitten, possibly by a bull shark. He was hospitalized.

 

Jatuporn said yesterday that the beach would remain closed for the time being - signage in the area warns tourists.

 

The authorities are looking at the behavior of the sharks to determine the best course of action to prevent further trouble.

 

Top on the "to do" list is provision for a 350 meter net and who is going to pay for it.

Well, out of all the government Dept heads, this guy is a good choice to "spearhead" this effort, rather than Doctor "Barnacles Dun It", and other assorted experts whizzing around in speedboats.

 

Be interesting to see who's rice bowl ponies up the dough for an emergent, unfunded beach net requirement.  PM Prayuth needs to "wade in" and write a cheque.

 

Also a missed opportunity for the Director of Tourism and Sports to get an "I'm on it" action photo of himself, stumbling around at the beach in leather loafers with the Marine & Coastal Resources head honcho. 

 

Inter-departmental and cross provincial cooperation for the good of the Kingdom.  Protect sharks AND the tourists; Thai and Farang alike.  That's a civil servant's wet dream if there ever wuz one.

How about posting a sign that says "Last week, we had the first shark bite in around 50 years when a guy got bit in the foot, so swim at your own risk".

 

Imagine arriving for your hard earned annual beach holiday only to find that the beach is closed.

 

OTOH, if it keeps people from swimming in sewage...  God works in mysterious ways.

The only reason they aren't all gummies is they eat things that even bacteria will avoid.if a local ever bit me I would be straight down the hospital for a full course of jabs including rabies.
