"Keep Walking": Big Joke returning real whisky to the people!

Not content with solving transnational crime of all descriptions Thailand's number one crime buster has turned his attention to pirates flogging cheap Thai booze as expensive foreign brands.

Surachet Hakpal - the deputy commissioner of the tourist police bureau - was at a house in Pathum Thani north of Bangkok that acted as a mixing and distribution depot for a gang of Burmese and Thai liquor pirates.

They were mixing three brands of local hooch in a large vat and bottling it up as Johnny Walker and other well known foreign brands of whisky.

One of three Burmese men arrested showed the deputy chief how it was done.

Hundreds of cases of illegal spirit were seized worth 10 million baht in raids on a house in Bang Luang and other premises in Bang Khae reported the official site of the Tourist Police Bureau.

Surachet has been seen both home and abroad busting everything from call center gangs to illegal guides and romance scammers in recent months.

Now people can thank him that their favorite foreign tipple might actually be what it says on the label.

Knowing full well that the average joe drinker will not be able to tell if

they drink a top shelf whiskey or a mixed up plonk, let alone the

difference between a premium single malt and the blended verierty...

Elliot "Big Joke" Ness bustin' up the bathhouse whiskey operations and preserving the moral fabric of the nation against a populace who simply do not understand what is good for them (as well as protecting the interests of certain monopolies :whistling:) <drum-roll, slide-whistle, cymbal crash>.

When will the next publicity stunt be?

Nothing is solved with these 1-day crackdowns as attention shifts away as fast as Big Joke is driven to the next photo-op.

Ok, Mr. Big Joke, and again a "good" work is done, the only thing is: in case you like to eliminate all the fake things in Thailand, you need to close the country totally. Thailand is the country of the fake items and remixes high level drinks.

You right, this guy is the absolutely Exhibitionist....

Cant wait for Big Joke's move into high end corruption but I fear it maybe great the grandson of BJ before any progress is made.

This being Thailand, I wouldn't actually count on that...

I suspect a lot of what this guy is doing is grandstanding, and presumably he has ambitions for higher (and richer) office.

But I will say one thing: his escapades certainly do begin to hint at what a real Thai police force could actually accomplish if the entire group ever started acting like real law enforcement personnel instead of tea money collectors and all their other off the books endeavors.

They need to go to Songkla.....check the illegal JW "import" from Malaysia......7-800/lt BL!

I certainly agree, but in defence of "the rest of the force": this guy is probably not doing much more than sitting in his office waiting till one of his minions tells him they finally got a certain bust and he has to dress up for the photo opportunity. It is not that he himself is gathering information, squeezing his sources, slipping some baht to the bartender for information, joining on stake-outs, patrol the streets, or anything like that. If at the end of the week nothing popped up he will just tell the people below him to rat out one of their sources of income to make him look good.
