Office worker falls in the canal in the flood - there was no barrier to prevent it

A female office worker went on Facebook to tell how she fell in a canal in the floods on Friday evening.

The canal was not protected by a barrier and the level of the water was so high that what would normally have been clearly visible was anything but.

Pai Sriprapai said that her husband usually picks her up from her office in Viphavedee Rangsit Road.

But he was stuck in heavy traffic after the heavy rains so she decided to walk out to meet him. As she was making a phone call she lost her footing and found herself out of her depth in the murky klong.

She lost her belongings and phone as she struggled to find a ledge. She could not swim.

Fortunately she managed to grab onto the side of the klong before a Good Samaritan came to her aid.

A student nearby nearly suffered a similar fate but was helped by a policeman, she said.

She counted herself lucky that it was only her possessions that she lost, reported Sanook.

The hospital told her to monitor her condition as she had swallowed some filthy water.

Netizens called on the Jatujak district office to erect a proper barrier at the spot to prevent such accidents in the future.

There you have it, she was that busy yakking on her phone, she was not concentrating on where she was going and during a flood.

Well you cannot fix stupidity.

Notwithstanding this, there was no real barrier.

I hate idiots glued to their smartphone screens pretending there is nothing ahead during walking. Hope this is a good lesson for them.

It's called peripheral vision, most of the younger generation who can operate smartphones deftly seem to have mastered it. If you check the other photos at the bottom of the attached article, this stretch of path was a deathtrap that anyone was liable to get caught out by, even if just struggling with an umbrella.
