Great to see Thai gratitude to our fellow national   English guy and other  international citizens helping at the site. It reminds us that the world is interdependent and we need each other  so much. In a uncertain world with the Trump global trade wars kicking off soon ( and harmful Brexit)  and likely to cause share downturns and job losses we are all reminded we need each other. Each country has its own skills and benefits and in a globalized world we need each other and we go forward.

I thought that it was pretty decent of the Thai officials to do this. Robert Harper doesn't do the voluntary work for money or recognition, he does it because he's a decent human being and I suspect h

I would like to interview him and ask what he thinks about the fact that a monk is now forking in donations for his prediction...

They diver will be very disappointed at home  when he will find out that the new shoes are fake.

Hidden behind the Thais smile, is yes you did a great job, everybody loves you ...But, You made us look foolish, and we can handle it from here, you in made comments about Thai's, that made some sad! So thanks and goodbye...Oh! thats from the dictionary of  made up phrases used by Thai's to get rid of you and not renew contracts!  Still thats why the will be glad he has gone home, and they can get back to back patting for each other! They just better not drown any of the kids now!

They did a great job and were very humble about it.  Let's hope it all ends well for the boys.

"the authorities paid a for a new pair of shoes purchased by Harper to replaced the torn one."

Wow! Is there no end to this Government's generosity?

I'm not understanding why they would pack him off so quickly, since he is 1 of only a handful of people that could cave dive those kids out.

I hope it's not a case of you found them, but we want the world to see a Thai bring them out.

Seems like the Thai don't know what to do now.

There's a thought, and another one - why the tourism minister?

Further, still no visit or comment from the national police chief.

"no visit or comment from the national police chief"

Doesn't need explaining, surely?

You can't make this up, can you?

I would publicly give them away or throw them away.

Reading the article in the OP often helps in avoiding the need for bashing the Thais for no reason and making yourself looking like a Thai bashing fool.

Oh do keep up and improve your mindset.  He's 70 years old and has to return for medical reasons.  I'm 73 and it's an effort to climb the stairs to bed.  Well done fella.

i doubt he'd give a damn other than for the safety of those kids.

Well  done!

And,that ,after all,is all that is needed.

Apparently the Thai have better manners then the Thai bashers here but that wouldn't be hard when you are dealing with Caucasians,No-one one the planet has ever accused  them of good manners.

Nice touch seeing him off in this manner.

Are you sure it wasn't a case of seeing him off their manor?

I don't really think the Thai bashing or your comments for that matter are needed here.  This thread is for showing appreciation of the immense skill and courage of a few guys that flew over here and risked their own lives to help.

Too busy posing and polishing up his "medals" and ribbons. is National Police Chief his rank, or is it something else? I cannot see his rank being something simple like that, not in Thailand.:cheesy:

Yes.

Thank you-you are tops!

I hope Thai people have learnt a lesson on respect and international cooperation.

I don't think the ordinary Thai people need any lessons on respect, it's the ones in the fancy uniforms and have the fancy ranks who love their authority, and paid their way up the ladder.

Nicely done, fair play for sending him home in style, well deserved but not mandated, class act on Thai side.

His group contacted Thai Tourism office in London to make an offer to come.
