Police suspect murder as Indian found "foaming at the mouth" in Chiang Mai hotel

Chiang Mai police were called to a downtown hotel on Chang Khlan Road yesterday after a 45 year old Indian man was found dead in bed.

A Thai woman who checked in with him on Sunday has disappeared.

The victim was Tariq Bat Amat who was wearing a short sleeved white shirt and black underwear. He had been dead about 12 hours. There were no injuries on the body but Sanook reported he was foaming at the mouth.

At the head of the bed was a coffee cup with the contents consumed. The deceased documents were in his wallet along with 50 baht.

But the rest of his valuables had gone missing.

Police Captain (lady) Monrisa Bunkam discovered that Mr Amat had checked into Room 304 with the Thai woman on Sunday at 6pm.

At 7pm she ordered a coffee and bread and jam.

When Mr Amat did not check out as planned on Tuesday a maid was sent to open the room with the spare key and made the discovery.

Police believe it is likely that this is a case or murder. They believe the victim could have been poisoned with something added to the coffee before his possessions were taken.

The body was sent for autopsy at Maharat Nakorn Hospital and the remains of the coffee are being forensically examined.

They are actively searching for the women who has disappeared.

The Indian embassy has been informed.

Sanook did not say if the victim was a tourist.

Wow, now inflation has even reached the prices for disposal of a corpse.

Maybe this rule only applies to licensed hotels...

I hope they catch her - senseless murder over "nothing" probably....

Did i read, " chocked in with him" ? ?

May be she runaway with his laptop and valuables ?

It is so stupid to see such crimes, as now a days cameras can show every entry and exit properly, and she would be caught with in 24 hours.

A wild guess; he was.

A Thai woman going with an Indian ?  Now that should shorten the odds on finding her as 99.9 % of Thai woman don't entertain them.  And how could they have known what valuables he had to claim that "the rest of his valuables had gone missing" ?   Perhaps he didn't have any

Well, he must have had something, or did he plan on paying her with 50 baht?  And  what self respecting Indian goes around without a kilo of gold around his neck?

The relevance of this information eludes me.

Maybe she didn't kill him but left as she thought she would be accused of killing him. A full autopsy needs to be conducted to see exactly what he died off, until then it is all conjecture

Foaming means murder? It’s really comical!

"Police believe it is likely that this is a case or(f) murder."

that is a first.

Totally agree...

It is more likely he died from off brand (Non-Thai) viagra... :coffee1:

Not necessarily. He could have picked a bottle up containing poison and accidentally drank it, we just dont know

Sure sounds like murder to me, but I'd check the AC anyway as others have died foaming at the mouth due to overzealous use of pesticides. And the woman would likely take the valuables when she left as they would no longer be needed by the deceased.

The police are hoping that by revealing this he may be identified by people who could have seen him walking around Chiang Mai with only a shirt and underpants on,  and hence provide further background information.  Unless that is there are a lot of Indians running around the streets of Chiang Mai wearing black underpants these days ?

Are you a Doctor or a Pathologist? If not your have no idea what you are talking about so it is ridiculous to jump to conclusions

I assume that's a misprit and it should be 'the deceased's documents', unless it perhaps refers to an expired licence of sorts?

That's if the cameras are working and also recording 24/7
