Possible to get real baguettes or other quality crusty daily baked bread in CM?

Featured Replies

I've had no luck finding this in 3 SE Asian countries so far including Thailand.

Real bread without sugar , dairy, fungicides, preservatives, daily baked, and with a crust, not a squishy loaf.

  • correction. my bad. dominic bakery not dominique. 1st rate croissant and baguette. closed tues/wed. supplies most leading hotels here.

Try NaNa bakery shops in CM.  I frequent the one in Santhitham.  I luv the Cereal Bread, so healthy.

I feel personally that Nana Bakery has gone downhill. Their bread used to be crusty and full of flavour, now I find it soft and mostly tasteless.

For "proper" French style bread, "L Opera",  opposite Anantara Hotel, French owner, bakes himself personally every day, and also sells lots of nice French style patisseries/ cakes etc.

Go in the morning as most of his bread sells out by lunchtime.

I saw a rather small, interesting, fresh bakery near the UN Irish Pub (same side of the road nearer the moat).  Didn't give it a try but you might want to check it out.

The UN had/still have their own little bakery shop literally next door.

Always sticks in the memory as their door and step arrangement caused me to enter the shop head first to the sound of laughter.

Vowed never to go back until I took out some health insurance

Next to Nan's barbershop on Thapae is a great bakery.

Bakery in Central Festival Food Hall (basement) is very good and most Topps supermarkets have crusty 'sour' bread as they call it over here.

UN Iris bakery has moved across the road to the former sushi bar premises

Yamazaki at Airport Plaza bakes fresh bread and baguettes. Much better than the industrial stuff with a one week shelf life. Much better than Tops, Tesco, Big C etc. Nana is ok but i prefer Yamazaki.

Buy a bread machine (2,000bht) and make your own.

So how do you make a baguette in a bread machine? Why is it that every subject on here ends up with a clever clogs?!

You pull the dough out after the ferment, shape it, and put it in your oven for the final bake.

Same for bread rolls and pizza.

Not sure if every Big C does them though as only ever seen them here.

You just need some Cathedral City mature Cheddar to go with that...

....or a good old Pork Farms Pork Pie all the way from Nottingham! Come on you Reds!

The only real french bread anywhere here is at L'Opera. It is the same as you would get in France. The baker is French. He bakes hundreds each day. We stock up each week from L'Opera. We have tried everywhere mentioned over the years and prior to L'Opera the best baguettes where from Crusty Bread Bakery which moved around for a while before disappearing.

So those 'french' baguettes are white flour bread in a long tubular shape?  Which means a high glycemic index and a promotion towards constipation.

No thanks.

dominique bread, french baker, in nong hoi has excellent bread, croissant and patisserie. find via facebook

In that case I am going to try my luck at selling Yorkshire puddings.

I mean if they are made by a Yorkshireman, they are bound to be the genuine article, the best infact?

Somehow I think that logic just isn't true.

Dull and crap compared to 2 years ago. L Opera is the only place in town.

Was put off Nana bakery after I bought a baguette from them took it straight home unwrapped it and it was covered in ants !

The Makro butter croissants are as good as any other in the city and they are now producing a wholemeal version.

Chiang Mai Bread near the Westin hotel, Jimmy. All natural ingredients. The way you want it, maybe. LOL

To each his own, but last time I was in Chiang Mai, which was a couple of months ago, I had Nana Bakery's sourdough walnut bread and it was fantastic.  So good I lugged a couple loaves all the way back to Bangkok.
