A bus passenger in Chiang Mai's Chiang Dao district was shocked when he realised that he had been talking to a dead man for more than an hour in a bus shelter early on Thursday.

The unnamed passenger only discovered he was sitting beside a lifeless body when the morning broke.

Chiang Dao police were alerted at 6.10am about the body that was found in a sitting position inside the bus shelter in front of the Ban Mae Na graveyard in Tambon Mae Na.

The unidentified dead man, who appeared to be a hill tribe man 55 to 60 years old, had a small black power cable tied around his neck connected to the roof beam of the shelter.

Apart from the cable around his neck there were no other signs of injury.

He did not carry any identification document.

A doctor determined that he died about 10 hours before being discovered.

The bus passenger told police that he went to the bus shelter early in the morning when it was still dark.

He said the man was sitting in the shelter and he talked to him but as he did not reply he assumed the man was just sleeping.

When daylight broke, however, the witness said he looked at the man closer and was shocked to see the power cable around his neck.

He ran out of the shelter for help and people in the neighbourhood called police.

The body was sent to the district hospital for a post mortem examination.

Snap!

Another one outside the temple at Mae Khet this morning.

My next door neighbour was there and spoke to him but he didn't reply, thought he was sleeping, but he was dead.

Yup, but nothing Thai about it, these people can be found in every country, but don't let an opportunity to slander Thai's slip past you.

well sorry, I've noticed nothing that until I moved to Thailand. As far as I know it's a Thai exclusive. That's why I asked the question in the first place.

poor apologist attempt IMO.

pointing out what he believes he has n oticed regards different traits and behaviours in different cultures and nationalities is hardly slandering anyone.

Go into a bar in any country in the whole world and you will be able to observe people talking to people who are not listening to them, it is extremely common, so now you know it is not exclusive to Thailand, glad to have cleared that up for you.  Anything else you think is a Thai exclusive?

What are you dribbling about this time?  Are you seriously trying to claim that pointing out that his observation is neither exclusive to Thailand nor a common Thai trait is being an apologist?  An apologist for what exactly?  Is it the controversy of old Thai women nattering to their deaf neighbor?  That makes perfect sense, particularly if you haven't the first idea what an apologist is.

by pointing out what he believes he has noticed as a trait particular to thais whether it is or isn't and him sharing that on a thai discussion board is not slandering thai people. those making ridiculous claims are the usual, thailand is so great. don't say any bad word about the great thais or go home bla bla bla. pure fricking pointless drivel

You're probably right, I don't hang out in bars though. Now that you mention it I think I've seen elderly people in parks do this to and perhaps some homeless guys too. Maybe the guy was drunk or getting up there in years.

I've noticed Thai's can have conversations when the other person is barely listening and doesn't even respond. Anyone else ever notice that? It's really anti-social and weird if you ask me.

Is very common that a Thai person doesn't listen.

Although it doesnt suggest that the man spoke to the deceased for an hour , the report suggests that the man spoke to him and as he didnt reply , he thought that he was asleep and therefore didnt speak to him again until sunrise and then he noticed that he was dead

Nattering about a woman you saw talking to someone who wasn't listening is a good example of pointless drivel, whereas voicing a distaste for false generalisations being applied to the populous is not pointless drivel, the point is clear.

alright. his comment was truly slanderous to the people of thailand. i am sure they would be deeply offended by such a comment but luckily you were here to set those damn thai haters straight and i am sure the people of thailand appreciate you for that.

anyway, boring now . . .

Yes, I want to really get you going, so how about corruption?

No, corruption is not exclusive to Thailand, obviously, otherwise the international news would not be full of corruption cases the world over.

I vaguely remember a case long time ago in the UK where Social Workers were daily calling on an old lady to check she was OK.

Apparently she was in a chair facing the window so they only saw the back of her and when getting no response to their questions assumed she was just dozing and did not want to disturb her.

Anyway this went on for a few days before anyone realized  she had actually been dead for some time. :w00t:

Speaking to the dead - not only in Thailand
