Chiang Mai News reported that four Israeli tourists were taken to hospital after a Fortuner driven by a Thai guide smashed into a tree on the Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai Road.

Driver Somporn Sriwichai, 50, was the worst injured with a neck injury.

He was taking the Israeli family members back to Chiang Mai after a trip to Chiang Rai.

They were named as Shulamit Spiegelblat and Shai Feliks Spiegelblat, both aged 47, and a 12 year old girl called Shira and 15 year old boy called Shoam with the same family name.

The accident occurred between km markers 27 and 28 in Pa Miang sub-district.

Doi Saket police investigating said that the reason for the crash had not yet been determined.

Were they not wearing seat belts and if not why not and what was the driver doing , it will be interesting if we ever find out .

Not very interesting and you should know the answer already.   Thais don't need seat belts as numerous Buddha amulets stuck to the dashboard looks after their well being. If accidents do occur then it either was pre-ordained, and hence quite acceptable, or else they were unlucky amulets.  Seat belts are a safety requirement needed by others who have no faith in Buddha protecting them. As for the Israelis, well , seat belts could have saved their bacon !!

Reading the headline ,thinking not only Thai's have accidents,

then reading full story, they had a Thai driver.

Israelis asleep in the back, driver thought he would take a nap too ?

who knows.

Special laws of dynamics apply to black SUVs and silver minivans according to their Thai drivers. They can overtake around blind corners, brows of hills and into oncoming traffic without any fear.
