So we are going to drive to Hua Hin and stop off on the way and way back.

Going down our plan is to visit Sukothai and stop at Phitsanolouk and Ayutthaya and continue down.

Coming back we will go the other way at Nakhon Sawan and travel via Kamphaeng Phet and Tak.

Can anyone recommend any places to visit and stop overnight on either the route down or the return?

We will be traveling mid-March unfortunately (baking hot) as it's the school holidays before Songkran.

Thanks in advance.

Pattara resort in Phitsanulok is a really nice spot, right in town with an oasis-like feel and great swimming. If you leave P'loke by 8am, you can hit Hua Hin mid-afternoon (traffic permitting). We go a bit further south, to Pranburi and 300 Yod, a perfect escape from the northern smoke. Have always been interested to stop and check out Uthai Thani, known for its forests.

11 hour drive with a few pit stops. We cut across just after Nakon Sawan through Suphan Buri.

I'm more interested in finding out where is interesting to stop off and visit. 11hrs in a car with 3 boys is too much and not good for our toddlers back or mine LOL

Wat Khao Wong at Ban Chang

Frankly, Hua Hin is a bust. Better to continue 174km down to Prahuap Khiri Khan.

We did a tour of the north along the mae sot to chiangmai border road. From chiangmai back to bkk we stopped off in the bangkok airways owned hotel at sukhothai airport, the Sukhothai Heritage Resort. Very nice quiet hotel 2km from airport almost solely used by people  on bkk airways tour of sukhothai. 2 nice pools. Airport has a little zoo.

The beauty of this hotel is, its about 45 minutes out of sukhothai and 45 minutes from si satchanalai, and in the country. Everybody raves about sukhothai  - rightly so - but ive always enjoyed my visits to the quieter ruined city of si satchanalai.

Hotel and area has enough to see do for at least  a minimum  2 nights.

Weve had to overnight a few times in nakhon sawan in recent years. Hotel Aramis has been our choice everytime. About b1000 per room per night.

The ruins in kamphaengphet town and just outside are well worth an hour or two.

So with kids that young you pretty much need a hotel with a pool to let the kids blow off steam  in after a drive. The one i suggested in sukhothai would suit, the one in nakhon sawan maybe not (no pool but I'm  not sure if any hotel in NS has a pool (.
