PHUKET:-- Eleven Russians are among 15 foreigners who are facing deportation after being arrested for working illegally at an outlet in Chalong that specialises in traditional Thai herbs and medicines and targets Russian-speaking customers.

The foreigners were arrested at the Erawadee outlet on Chaoi Fa West Rd just south of Wat Chalong (see main website here) during a raid carried out by Phuket Tourist Police and Phuket Immigration Police last Wednesday (Feb 20).

The raid followed police receiving a complaint about the outlet just a few days earlier, Capt Ekkachai Siri of the Phuket Tourist Police told The Phuket News today (Feb 26).

Questions like that can result in a late night swimming session with your new best friends cement block 1 and cement block 2.

Will there be a military response from Vlad or some doggy door handles to avoid down Phuket way ???? if not bye bye

There are 1000's of them around , not paying taxes, selling products to Russian visitors. Here in Naklua, Pattaya I pass at least 6 Russian owned shops. The staff are Russian , no Thais involved.

Still they are allowed to carry on, until someone had enough, when the locals realize they are stealing customers.

They also have an outlet in Pattaya.

I imagine that any Russian employees will suddenly be taking unpaid leave until this blows over.

And as others have posted there are scores and scores of them all over the place.  Tour guides, not to mention the Russian girls on Walking street handing out pamphlets.  Anybody ever see their work permits?

Thai Land for thai     LOL  the non smile land ...

Sounds pretty blatant with so many workers. Maybe the complaint was from someone who didn't get his share from the brown envelope?

So according to the new rules, just fined and deported...without the IDC over their heads maybe more will just risk it...though that recent at-home online English teacher it was not known why he got jailed..but members guessed he was on over-stay.

There was a new police order floating around about that 'no jail' change but whether its actually being enforced or not is another thing....if enforced, its bone broth meals for all that lot at IDC and double priced 7-11 items till they can pay their fine and over-priced flights out !

None of those Russian girls look rentable

about time the Thai Immigration  personnel carried out  more physical  checks on foreigners  doing their own business in Thailand

Work permits  visas ect

Illegal competition. If I am totally legal and my competition is flaunting the law to either be cheaper or better I would be unhappy.

Poor russians it is more difficult for them to quietly blend in unlike those from china or myanmar or cambodia.

Unless they come from the Asian part of Russia, some of their ancestors were Chinese and Mongolians . Will blend in easily.

Reading these Comments describing the numbers of possible illegal workers and locations makes me wonder, Where is Big Joke?

Yes, I can see your point there.

Russian service is always head and shoulder above Thai service. Burmese service is also superior to Thai service. Very rarely have I seen a Russian or Burmese service worker playing on their phone.

I live in that neighborhood as well. Just a matter of time until the "crack down" and photo op.
