Though the Brexit Party is grabbing all of the headlines (& the largest number of seats) it's worth pointing out that the Anti-Brexit parties actually did better than those that were pro-Brexit...

Like his bluster that he is a wealthy man......#brexitpoundcrashingfacesavingnonsense.....plus if most of his money is in Baht as he says he has a vested interest in a falling pound as his safety net when he comes back uninsurable to the socialist NHS. Clever stuff (if true) like JRM talking sovereignty but enriching himself overseas....

2 points..I did not say I am wealthy..also I have NO vested interest in the £Sterling/Thai Baht rate.
Be clear on that!!!

It speaks volumes about the chronic failure of the UK's political class that the most likely person to be the next Prime Minister is either Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn, or Nigel Farage.

When mainstream politics reneges on its duty, the door is opened to the wackos.

The only one I would partly trust to buy a used car from would be Nigel Farage. At the least I would get a pie and a pint down the local to settle the deal.

I fell over in the street on Friday bruising my left side. My wife took me to the local hospital at 11 am on Saturday morning and I was examined by a Thai lady doctor who spoke very good English within 10 minutes, given 3 X rays which showed no breaks or fractures. About 30 minutes start to end and I was seen in order. Total costs 660 baht.

there were other Thais there before and after me, no drunks or people assaulting hospital staff. We all waited patiently to be seen and the costs were reasonable.

That's excellent service and always good to hear. But tell me do you think that experience will resolve the Brexit issues ? ( sorry just had to say) but posted in wrong forum.

I was responding to a post about the UK national health service under the current system and perhaps it will improve after Brexit.

The post was in this thread, so it is normal to respond to the poster in the same thread, would you not agree?

yes if you want to go off topic. The thread is about the UK being polarised due to Brexit. Malagateddy diverted the topic to which bild 766 replied and yourself subsequently. But it is still off topic from the original OPs would you not agree ?

I'm out for the day but an equivalent donation say 20 quid to a project I strongly support would be most welcome. Just have malagateddy in the message and I'm happy to call it quits.[emoji6][emoji6]

Brexit only works for the gullible and the self-entered

Many people think that the only British people who support our continued membership of the E.U.  Are the gullible and those who are selfishly thinking of only theirselves.

The pollsters blatant dishonesty on Brexit is ruining the public trust

"Polling companies have a duty to be honest about their work. They must recognise that winning a national election is a sufficient reason to be explicitly included in a list of voting intentions.

Until they do so, I will consider their results to be fake."

Yes, many topics go off topic but come back in a short while.

I suspect you haven't seem or read Billy Liar.

If anyone has the urge to dig deeper than reading Billy Liar, an excellent essay on when and where populism emerges has just been published.

The short version is that the people have to strongly feel they are being shafted by self-styled elites, and will therefore follow an individual who denigrates those elites and talks about standing up for 'real people'.

https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/populism-key-ingredients-by-daron-acemoglu-and-james-a-robinson-2019-05

The authors are no fans of populism, but see it filling a vacuum left by the useless self-serving actions of those who are using power simply for their own benefit.

"The short version is that the people have to strongly feel they are being shafted by self-styled elites," - strongly feel? or rather have been told.....

Life of Brian illustrates it perfectly

Quick question, has this got anything to do with the topic?

It most certainly has - if you don't understand then ask a friend.

Ten you didn't understand the movie - try reading the book.............its about a dissatisfied person locked in his own fantasies, who creates a chaos with a load of lies.......Boris Johnson to a tee

Thanks. Your definition of a typical Remainer is better than Waterhouse's.

You forgot...Billy also alienates people.

You and Billy?????

I don't think you'd do very well on a literature course - but I fear that is the case for most Brexiteers. It seems a large part of the National has given up on analytical thought and critical thinking......thus the nebulous concepts of Brexit.

A touch OTT, and to quote the evening standard???  It's one of the most obviously biased 'papers around...

Having said this, I too am worried about uk politicians being stupid enough to have absolutely no consideration for 'ordinary' people - whereas the eu had the intelligence to come up with a few policies that helped them.

Which is why (IMO) it's absolutely necessary to impress upon both uk and eu politicians that the 'ordinary' person has had enough of their lies and troughing.  It's time for them to start putting their electorate before their own personal, financial interests.
