Yup. Have had to provide them both for at least five years now.

And please note. They like the map to be hand-drawn. They don't like prints from Google Maps.

I don't think that I've been providing both for quite so long, but they certainly seem to be required now and in any case a very good idea to have them with you even if you don't want to include them in your initial application.  I suspect you will be asked for them.

One of the purposes of the map and photo is so that someone from Immigration can easily find where you live (we all know that addresses alone aren't really up to that job in Thailand).  I've been providing the hand-drawn map for several years now and it's the same map I would give to a friend. delivery person, or a taxi driver to explain where I live.  No one from Immigration has ever visited me at home.

I suspect the reasons a Google Maps printout isn't accepted are two-fold:  basically, they could get the same thing from Google Maps themselves by entering your address and are instead looking for the kind of information that a person who has actually been there before can provide; and a hand-drawn map allows significant landmarks to be included which seem to be the preferred means of giving directions around here (things like, turn left at the Makro).  Also, the hand-drawn map provides the opportunity for greater detail to be provided closer to your home as the last 100 meters are the most difficult aspect, most Immigration Officers already know where Patong is in relation to Phuket Town. ????

Yes, which is why the Phuket Immigration Volunteer site mentions an up-to-date address registration as one of the requirements for an extension of stay and provides the instructions on how to do that:

http://piv-phuket.com/others/address-registration/
Yes, it looks a great service, I wish it was available elsewhere.

I never know why they ask for maps in Thailand. How many times have I drawn a map at Homepro, Big C or elsewhere yet still they phone for directions! Map-reading is definitely not on the Thai school curriculum.

I wonder if Immigration Officers are any different?

No delivery people ever call me for directions when I provided them a map. So maybe the problem isn't them reading a map, but you writing a map... :whistling:

I provided both as advised by the PIV site and they were accepted.  I guess to know whether they were really needed I would have held them in reserve and tried to get my application approved without them, but I didn't try that experiment. [emoji6]
Address registration has to be done in room 101 or can be done at drive through? is power of attorney form plus owners ID copy of house book, copy of rental agreement needed?

If you've never done it before - room 101, documents needed.

If you have changed address - room 101, documents needed.

If you have done it before and have the same address, but, have come from abroad - drive through, passport only.

Awesome, thanks! I rent still drive through?

The map and picture is a officially requirement but it is not always requested.

Most of the time they will ask for it at the first time extension and after this it is a hit and miss.

You will  always see that they will ask for it when you don't include it ????

I provided both last time I renewed. Two people in front of me didn't but were told they could bring them when they picked up their passports the next day. This surprised me a little, considering the reputation IOs have for being pedantic and unhelpful. The younger two who did the data entry both gave reminders so I'd guess it's put on the system.

But on another day, perhaps with a different officer, the attitude could be totally different.

I always keep the extra bits in the envelope just in case. I never produce the lot at the start as they are bound to come up with something- after a couple of goes they used to get bored. Never been asked for anything other than on the list for quite a while though- I guess I just tempted fate.

If you have ready access to your last year's TM-7 you could make a copy and edit that copy using Adobe's Acrobat Reader DC (using Fill & Sign) to update it for this year's application.  And so forth for next year.

It is still acceptable to use the downloaded form.  Note that the TM-7 is intended to be a double-sided single page when printed.  They seem to insist on this.  If you don't have the TM-7 you used last year, you can download a new one from the Immigration site:

I used to make copies of everything, at least 3, it was always fun waiting for the usual go 2 copy then just digging out of the envelope, you could actually see the IO getting peeved when he couldn't get you lol.

I need to go to Bangkok for two days and the hotel there will for sure register me as a guest staying at their premises. Do you think I need documents then or only passport and drive through when return to Phuket where address is the same as its been for years, and was last time updated when I came from abroad end Mai.

Thanks

Is Phuket Immigration accepting Foreign currency deposit account equivalents of the 800000b for retirement extensions? Just the facts,maam...

Reading this thread I noticed the top ad on the right hand side from an agency guaranteeing a retirement extension with no 800,000 baht required.

Seems that Big Joke's plans didn't work.

Sorry, don't want to go off-topic here but I found it interesting. Google ads, I believe, not TV.

From all that has been posted on other threads about retirement extensions and the use of agents for the 800 K requirement, it would appear that this is perfectly legal as apparently most offices have a high ranking official who can issue the retirement extension at his/her discretion.

That being the case I am considering seeking out one of these agents when my next extension comes due in October.

I am able to bring over 800 K from my New Zealand investments, but I don't want to break into any of them and furthermore I do not feel comfortable with having 800 K then 400 K tied up here. Anyway, it would appear that the agents who do this charge 30,000 baht, and this would easily be covered by about a quarter of the dividends of one of my investments, so easily done.

So my question is, are there good agents in Phuket/Patong who would facilitate this for me and if TV members are okay with posting the details, then fine, if not a PM would be great.

I don't want to start an in-depth argument/discussion about what's right and what's wrong, because apparently this is legal, so information would be most appreciated.

ADDENDUM: If this practice is "illegal" then I would appreciate hearing about it!!!!!!

Be honest I am in the same boat. Can keep the money in bank but I resent the imposition of not being able to use my own money.

I do not believe this '800k baht service' is legal. I do know plenty folks who have obtained their one year extension this way. Indeed my wife has a nephew (not Phuket) who supplies this service for 20 - 25k Baht.  Not sure how it works with these new rules. But in the past there was a scam/fraud with a bank manager showing the money for the 3 months (all fake) and the area immigration captain signing off.

My opinion is that this 'service' is not legal.

legal .... not legal, at the end of the day who cares as long as you obtained your extension or visa the way you wanted to. Why open a can of worms for no reason.

steven .... xyl asked if it was LEGAL. I gave my informed opinion. This is a discussion forum.

edit ... forum rule

3) You will not post about activities or links to websites containing such material that are illegal in Thailand. This includes but is not limited to: gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing, file sharing of pirated material, pyramid schemes, etc. Discussion of the above is permitted only as news items, but never as a "how to" topic.

agree and apologise, to be honest it's appears to be just another way of circumventing the system, which is normal for Thailand I guess. lol

My experience is that they won't complain about a TM7 printed on both sides, but they might about one printed on two pages.

Just another angle on this........if the immigration officer has the authority to grant a retirement extension at his discretion, then he would not have to see any paperwork relating to the "money in the bank", because what he says goes and once he has stamped your passport that's it surely?

Therefore it does not involve the bank manager, or should not involve the bank manager, and anyway I don't believe that all of the paperwork that we give the immigration officers actually gets copied/scanned and goes on file somewhere.

The likelihood of anyone checking to see if there is a scanned copy of one's bank statements on file is surely very remote, if indeed the records even exist now?

I agree. My point is that I consider not legal. But it does work. I am not yet thinking about this method. TiT
