May have been true at one time. May still be true. But I think anyone flying into the USA is subject to visa scrutiny ever since 9/11, the shoe bomber and the underwear bomber. The theory being that they can take down an airplane long before they get to a secure area.

Indeed the previous answer is incorrect, they need a transfer visa as there's are no sterile transit facilities in the US, the IATA Visa Database confirms this, as does the link provided by OJAS. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/other-visa-categories/transit.html https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/ theoldgit
KhunBENQ Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Already booked? If not, ask in the travel forum for avoiding US transit.

Very clear that a transit visa is required. What a hassle (interview!). Absolutely avoid the US for transit and no need from Bangkok to Canada. 1
