Video: Driver going the wrong way near tunnel in Chiang Mai - police explain why

Mobile phone footage from near the Ruam Choke intersection tunnel in Chiang Mai showed a car be driven completely the wrong way on a busy highway. 

 

The media and netizens wondered why someone could be so stupid. 

 

The police soon gave them their answer.

 

CCTV showed that the car had spun in the tunnel after an incident and was coming out this way to try and find a place to make a U-turn.

 

There were no reports of damage. 

 

The Chiang Mai traffic police have issued a summons to talk to the driver after the footage appeared on Facebook on the page of Rewat Viangsuwan.

Erm.. so the driver had an accident and spun... 

Then drove the wrong way through a tunnel to try and turn.... 

 

This driver is clearly an accident waiting to happen... again...

The car must have had no reverse gear,better reversing out

with the traffic,than going against it............but.

Fair point....but have you seen people trying to reverse in Thailand? Maybe better to take your chances as this driver did!

Normal everyday life, the driver is not stupid he is just saving time using the shortest street available.

Reversing would have been a better option but even 3 point turning would have been better than what he/she did. ????????‍♂️

I can agree with the 3 point turn, but reversing when cars are coming at you at 80-90 km/h could have been disastrous.

 finding a tunnel in an underpass would be something of a miracle!
